Exeter to Paignton is pretty special

From Exeter to Newton Abbot through Dawlish Warren, is indeed very beautiful. I live down past there and used to get the train regularly away for work and always felt I was home when I hit that stretch.

The most beautiful I have ever done though was on the way from Birmingham to Holyhead to get the ferry to Ireland. Once you hit Wales it was stunning. Mountains on one side, sea on the other if I recall correctly. It was nearly 30 years ago but has always stayed with me.

Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh after taking the Caledonian Sleeper. Beautiful!

The areas near:
St Ives, Cornwall
Lydney, Gloucestershire

We did Glasgow to Mallaig, it's noted as one of the 10 most scenic rail journeys in the world. It was stunning, we did it in August 2015.

Settle to Carlisle line - preferably on a steam engine Grin

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 04/10/2020 23:45

Cumbrian coast.

Start at Carnforth and it's pretty much all coast and clifftops up to Carlisle. It's pretty good value too

HoppyHop · 04/10/2020 23:47

Aberdovey to Pwllheli. Coastal nearly all of the way.

AuntieMarys · 04/10/2020 23:51

Yes the Cambrian coast journey is spectacular

cloudylemonade13 · 04/10/2020 23:53

Newcastle to Edinburgh, the train follows the coastline for most of the journey and it's gorgeous. And as someone else suggested the west coast towards Mallaig (basically any journey north from Loch Lomond has beautiful scenery)

LimeLemonLimeLemon · 05/10/2020 00:03

Settle to Carlisle

the Devon one that runs by Dawlish, exeter, totne s , Newton abbot, Plymouth

Cornwall from Penzance to St Ives

CoolYourBeansMySon · 05/10/2020 00:47

I came to say Exeter to Paignton via Dawlish and saw that was why you posted! I used to live there and when I saw the sea coming back from uni in London I knew I was home. I'm still in London and don't have any family there now but still miss that view.

Another one for north of Newcastle to Edinburgh. So beautiful past Lindisfarne

lyralalala · 05/10/2020 05:08

Glasgow to Fort William - the bits through Glencoe are stunning
Fort William to Mallaig.
Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh
Inverness to Wick (or Thurso)
