Have you got an only child and a Nintendo Switch?

If so, what recommendations for games do you have?

I'd like something that will have some good staying power for a few years for a DD who is aged 10 now. Favourite at the moment (on other technology) is the Sims. Also quite likes, but gets frustrated when stuck on, race track games.

Animal crossing?

JassyRadlett · 03/10/2020 21:57

I only have one of Switch playing age. Lego games (Harry Potter, Incredibles, Lego City Undercover) and Zelda - Link’s Awakening are both good solo!

Mario maker (this is really good actually - basically designing your own levels)
Mario odyssey
Mario deluxe (can you sense a theme here!)
Minecraft

Zelda- breath of the wild is the switch version.
Animal crossing
Possibly "good job" (my DD enjoys it anyway, it's quite tongue in cheek)
Mario Kart

Spanglebangle · 03/10/2020 22:14

The Pokémon games. DD9 loves them.

Elisheva · 03/10/2020 22:17

Zelda is really good, Supersmash bros. was very popular for a while. DS is currently playing Overwatch, but he’s 13 so a little older than yours.

Greypurse · 03/10/2020 22:18

Animal crossing, Not tried Mario maker but heard it’s good. Minecraft is a fave here.

Spiderbaby8 · 03/10/2020 22:27

My niece has the switch and likes rayman, mario games, lego games and crash bandicoot

Zelda Breath of the Wild is amazing though strictly speaking a 12 certificate.
Luigi’s Mansion good according to my family.
Ring Fit Adventure is good for exercise when it’s cold and wet outside - the whole family can use it.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/10/2020 22:35

Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion, Zelda and Yoshis Crafted world are the most played with here. If they're a Mario fan the anniversary Mario All Stars would be good, I've ordered it for Christmas. DS plays fairly well on his own on these although I do join in sometimes Grin

weegiemum · 03/10/2020 22:40

I've more than one dc, but ds who is 18 is still playing animal crossing! Loves it.

Ormally · 03/10/2020 22:50

Brilliant stuff, thanks all. Difficult to know what will definitely be good 1-player games when no extra players around.

If you buy the annual online pass she can play with others across the world, things like Mario Kart and Splatoon 2, you can play them offline but they're much more fun with other real players.

As others have said Zelda Breath of the Wild is an amazing single player game and takes hundreds of hours to complete.

StopMakingShitUp · 04/10/2020 01:43

Animal crossing
Mario kart
Mari bros
Mario all stars 3D
Mario maker (anything Mario really haha)
Pokemon
Smash bro's
Minecraft
Splatoon
Zelda

NeverTalksToStrangers · 04/10/2020 01:50

Luigis mansion is fantastic. I preferred it to super Mario odyssey.
Mario kart is a must, there's always the option to play online.
Fifa
51 worldwide games is also good.

user127819 · 04/10/2020 02:09

Lego Worlds would be good if she likes building things.

Mario Kart and Animal Crossing are classics really and definitely have staying power.
