GinisLife · 03/10/2020 19:42

@MrsGrindah I agree with you. I was totally put off Meg Ryan when she was on Parkinson years ago and was so far up her own backside !! Never saw her in the same light again

JoBrodie · 03/10/2020 19:43

Can I strongly recommend O Brother, Where Art Thou? Holly Hunter, George Clooney, John Turturro, hilarious quote-tastic script and packed full of fantastic music. Utterly bonkers story too (based on The Odyssey) and charmingly quirky. From the same people behind The Big Lebowski, also brilliant and also on Netflix :)

Another favourite which is currently free on the Internet Archive (no idea why!) is The Dish, a beautiful little comedy about the role the Parkes Observatory dish played in the 1969 Moon landing. Lots of laughs and goosebumps, bit of mild peril, fantastic music from the era and a lovely score. With one of my top faves Sam Neill (who is also a delight on Twitter TwoPaddocks). I screened this as part of an open air film festival a couple of years ago, great fun.

The Internet Archive also has a few old British / Ealing comedies like I'm All Right Jack, School for Scoundrels, Passport to Pimlico, Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Lavender Hill Mob, Hobson's Choice. And all the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes episodes appear to be on YouTube.

When Harry Met Sally is also great.

Absolutely beautiful soundtrack on it too!

iluvgab · 03/10/2020 20:22

Emily in Paris - it's a series. Binge watched half of it yesterday and was then really annoyed when I had to go out all day today so I haven't been able to finish watching it yet

Ohdeariedear · 03/10/2020 20:28

@JoBrodie oh The Dish is great! I had completely forgotten about it til you mentioned it. I think we saw it at the cinema?!

MrsGrindah · 03/10/2020 20:31

The Dish!, Bloody love that film.

Ravenesque · 03/10/2020 20:35

@MissPoldark

Not a film but recently started watching The OA. I thought it was just some trash DH selected but it’s actually really good so far.

If you want a weepy romance The Notebook is on Netflix at the moment.

I loved The OA so much and I'm absolutely gutted that they bloody cancelled it. The bastards.

Just watched Peanut Butter Falcon thanks to this thread.
It was something a bit different. Thanks for the recommendation.

RonaRossi · 03/10/2020 23:16

We’ve just watched Freaks.

It’s a slow burn start and the first 30 minutes is confusing...but it comes together brilliantly. Great film and would highly recommend. Along the lines of Divergent...Sci Fi but not too much iyswim.

br1anmay · 03/10/2020 23:25

Rumour Has It is brilliant!

I was totally put off Meg Ryan when she was on Parkinson years ago

That's interesting, as I was totally put off Michael Parkinson. He was needling her and despite her saying during the interview that she finds the public aspect of her job difficult, he did nothing to try to put her at her ease. In fact he's admitted that he was in a mood and that he had taken against her, and that he could have done a lot better.

Queenest · 04/10/2020 07:55

So much to watch, can’t wait for DH to go out/fall asleep so I can get stuck in.

What did you choose OP?
