TW physical abuse. What would happen if I reported?

Historical incident of my ex trying to strangle me then throwing me down the stairs?
Would it be a prison sentence? Would nothing happen? I'm worried for their new partner. It was around this time last year.

And I am injured. But I fell so hard that had I landed on my head I believe it would have been game over.

Was it recorded in any way, e.g. medical/you telling people?

You can definitely get a crime ref, possibly do an interview with police, that wouldn't automatically mean it would go to court. Have you had any help with recovering from the assault?

Honestly in my experience unless there was stacks of evidence not much will happen for him. But bearing in mind your concern for his new partner I would 100% report to the police if you feel strong enough, your report will help if she ever reports anything.

Although this shouldn't be the case, the fact is that so long down the line, if you don't have evidence (medical reports, maybe texts to friends telling them what happened even - anything) it's unlikely that reporting would end in a conviction.

Straight after it happened, ex made me call an ambulance because they were suicidal.

I went to a&e two weeks later because the pain was worsening. I said id fallen down the stairs
I went to a chiro for the pain and told them same.
My supervisor at work knew at fhe time and is a retired police sergeant, & two friends were present when it happened, one was asleep on the sofa though. Ex admitted it to their grown up daughter who I'm still close to. So that may help I guess.
