Music Magpie - any advice please

Any help welcome!
I bought a phone off Music Magpie.
It looked fine when it arrived, but was terrible with memory, could not download 4 apps that I need day to day. I even bought an sd card, but it would not let me transfer anything onto it.
Anyway, I contacted them and was given a return label.
I packaged it to within an inch of it's life, no phone could have been more coddled.
I returned it, only to be told that this was 'accidental damage' and not covered by them.
They then said that the screen was cracked.
I swear that phone was in the same condition going back as it was when I received it.

Anyone got any idea what to do next?
Have I just lost my money?

I am bloody disgusted by them, feeling very ripped off.

I've now got the impression that they are unethical. I was offered 75 pounds for my old tablet which worked perfectly. They received it and said it was damaged. I got 7.50 for it. I won't deal with them again. If you Google them, others have had problems.

We used them. The courier was Hermes. He practically drop kicked our packages into his van. We assumed we would not get our pay out.

Luckily Hermes lost everything so we got the full pay out.

Did you photograph the phone before you sent it? I'd assume it had been damaged by the courier.

No, I couldn't photograph it as the camera was in the phone iyswim.
If I had been a bit brighter, I could have gotten someone else to take a pic, but it never once occurred to me there would be a problem
It was returned via Royal Mail.

To be fair no one would expect something like this unless they'd been warned.

Was it recorded delivery in any way? We send packages via Royal Mail and are sometimes covered up to £20.

It was a pre paid label supplied by Music Magpie. I had to send it tracked via the post office.

I know I have been screwed over, but hopefully anyone seeing this will think twice.

I think somewhere on the website it says that all parcels sent to/from them are fully insured? Maybe if you can find that part it would help your argument.

Have they sent you a photo of the cracked screen?

FreeGlib · 03/10/2020 18:55

We used their label too which is how they paid out when it went missing. I'd try what Peona says.

Beamur · 03/10/2020 18:58

I think you've been unlucky OP. I've used them several times and have been very happy with their goods and service.

Ratched · 03/10/2020 19:17

Well, they day they have sent a pic, but haven'tHmm
And yes, I have checked spam and trash.
Absolutely nothing.

I will have a look at the insured mailing thing, but I have no way of proving it was perfect when I packed it.
My DiL was here( she had printed the label fr me), but I doubt they would take her word for it.
Do you know, it's no even the money, although I really do need it, it's the sheet injustice that has really pissed me off.

It's just not fair. I bought in good faith, I returned on their instruction and now I am left out of pocket. Not on.

I know you think it could have been damaged in transit, but honesty, the postie would have had to jump up and down on it repeatedly - that is how well I packaged it.

I’ve bought 4 phones from music magpie
2 have been great
2 (described as pristine) had issues- the speakers didn’t work on them.
They agreed to fix them but there were many hoops to jump through and was extremely faffy so I do not recommend using them to anyone
