Would be glad of some company and the odd pep talk, if anyone would like to join me.

I am doing it too after a week away. Want to reset do more at the gym and follow a very healthy diet for a month

Dugee · 03/10/2020 16:03

I don't think I have a problem, just a habit. That habit is drinking every Friday and Saturday. I never drink more than 8-10 units a week, so don't think its problem level drinking. I just quite like a reset now and again, to break my weekend habit.

TazMac · 03/10/2020 16:24

Similar story here, I don’t drink to what the NHS classes as problematic levels, in that I rarely go over 14 units a weeks but I’d like to do OcSober as part of a health kick and also to reset my habits, it’s almost automatic to pour a G&T when I finish work on a Friday.

This is weekend one and I’m feeling quite motivated. I’ve got some orange san pellegrino chilling in the fridge, so that I still feel like I’m having a treat later.

Our Tesco order came last night. Without wine. We usually buy 2 bottles of red each week, to share over a Friday and Saturday night. So we will save £80 this month, DP said we should think of something nice to spend that £80 on, to motivate ourselves.

Dugee · 03/10/2020 16:38

We have some salted caramel truffles to enjoy after dinner instead.

Crankley · 03/10/2020 16:39

Definitely not. ['wine]

Crankley · 03/10/2020 16:39
Wine
TazMac · 03/10/2020 16:43

@Crankley

I’ll raise you a chilled san pellegrino 😀.

I've done Dry January before, it's easy for the first couple of weekends but then I do start hankering after a glass of wine.

SpanishFly · 03/10/2020 18:18

No, but we did Stoptember plus 2 weeks, and definitely felt sleep etc improved.

TazMac · 03/10/2020 18:30

@SpanishFly

It’s a bit of a conundrum isn’t it, I feel like alcohol helps me relax but I definitely sleep better when I’m on a break from booze.

Doing it too and after a hectic day at work would love a beer (again I don't have a problem only have a drink on a saturday usually have 5 or 6 bottles of beer) need a reset and to loose a bit of weight !

I am also in a local lockdown our bars,restaurants and gyms.have all closed so feel like.beer would be a great but having a steak dinner instead.

Only another 4 Saturdays to go lol

TazMac · 03/10/2020 19:27

@Newname1236

Problem and non problem drinkers are all welcome. Just anyone who fancies a break for whatever reason.

The not being a problem drinker comments are a response to the 2nd post in that mumsnet has now deleted.

How's everyone getting on?

Glad I'm through the Friday and Saturday risk nights but tbh I was quite happy with my chocolate truffles last night. It get harder as the month goes on.

Mooey89 · 04/10/2020 12:44

My husband and I are, starting today (because it was his 40th this weekend so I let him off) 😂
He definitely has a dependency and drinks every night, it’s not going to be easy for him. I rarely drink but am doing it in solidarity

Dugee · 04/10/2020 13:04

@Mooey89

It's great that you are doing it with him, he'll need that support, as it's difficult to do it if others are drinking around you.

TazMac · 04/10/2020 13:27

@Mooey89

I used to drink every night when I was in my late 20s. It started because I was a young professional living in a northern city, and in the early 2000s, it was the done thing to go out drinking with colleagues during the week. I then started having wine at home, in the bath or watching a film, until I was drinking a bit every night. I was drinking about 30 units a week. No one had told me that alcoholism runs in the family. My mum is teetotal due to her fathers alcoholic behaviour when she was young. His father was an alcoholic too but it was a shameful family secret.

Doing dry January 10 years ago was the reset I needed, along with the knowledge about my family history (which I discovered in a conversation with an Aunt at Christmas that year). I now drink moderately but like the reset that a sober month, a couple of times a year, gives me.

I've managed to get ill, so not really feeling the benefits of a hangover free Sunday, as I feel worse than if I'd had a couple of wines.

Dugee · 04/10/2020 18:03

@harridan50

How have you got on this weekend?

TazMac · 05/10/2020 16:26

Hope you feel better soon Dugee Flowers.

Thank you, feeling a lot better now, hoping I'll be able to make the most the upcoming hangover free weekend (weather looks better this weekend too 😁).

Gotthetshirt23 · 07/10/2020 15:31
