How often are you getting COVID 19 app alerts?

I didn't get any at first, having downloaded the app as soon as it came out, but I spent a night away in a city, went in a few places while there earlier this week. Since returning home I'm getting loads of alerts!

I just wondered how many alerts other people are seeing?

None at all. Don't know if it's because I need to update iOS still. Or the fact that I don't really go anywhere (I go to the school and my nail and eyebrow appointments once a fortnight) that's it.

yeOldeTrout · 03/10/2020 12:14

No Alerts yet. Got App first day it was available. Android phone. I don't go to a lot of places where other people are, either, tbf.

MsEllany · 03/10/2020 12:18

I got an alert yesterday but when I tapped on it, it just opened the app Confused. I didn’t get any follow up messages and because the notification was limited I couldn’t actually tell you what it said!

None, I have the Scottish Test & Protect app.

dun1urkin · 03/10/2020 12:20

I’ve had three since downloading it 9 days ago

I live in a rural area, and had nothing, a friend I was away with (two couples ) had one alert before we went. We spent one night in a city, ate out, went in some shops, and since coming home all four of us are getting loads of alerts!

The hotel we stayed at is in the area of one of the uni's in the city- literally across the road from the student Union building. I suspect the alerts are because of proximity to the students.

It just made me wonder if other people are seeing such stark differences as we have. Possibly rural areas not seeing anything, those living in cities getting them constantly?

This it what it says. I screenshotted one when I realised they disappear so quickly

That'll be this one! The alert isn't telling you that you need to isolate or anything, it is telling you that your information has been checked because you were in proximity to someone. If from checking that information it then deems you to be at high risk, you would get far more information. That alert is literally just to let you know that your app has been checked.

Interesting. I've had those. Messages that flash up for a split second and vanish and I panicked but then I also saw I get the same sort of thing when Bluetooth is off so I assumed they were all the same.
Wht can't we find them anywhere? Presumably there would be something more permanent if we needed to worry.
Other than supermarket I also don't go anywhere (but have two children at school, technically I see my parents on days they pick up )

beachedwhales · 03/10/2020 12:25

None. I got the app on the day it came out but I think it's pretty pointless; we have no mobile signal at home (farm) and none at work (surrounded by fields) either, when I'm going anywhere it's down tiny country lanes where you rarely meet anything other than a tractor or a horse.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2020 12:25

Oh I see, so I'm literally near someone with the same app :o worrying I've had so few

LadyCatStark · 03/10/2020 12:26

None but I’m not sure why you’re surprised when you’ve been to som many places 🤨.

Parky04 · 03/10/2020 12:26

Not had any. But not many cases in West Berkshire.

beachedwhales · 03/10/2020 12:27

@DoctorYang

None, I have the Scottish Test & Protect app.
It really should have been called 'Protect and Survive'

No, it's not that you're near someone that has the app, it's that it registered you were near someone that has it – so is checking how near and for how long to ascertain if you're at high risk.

None and live in medium risk area

WooMaWang · 03/10/2020 12:29

Neither of us have had any alerts at all. And we’re in a high risk area (as the app reminds me every time I open it).

You make it sound like we did something wrong, we followed all the rules and guidelines, checked in everywhere we needed to, wore masks, and kept away from everybody as much as we could – such as waiters have to approach the table et cetera can't be helped.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2020 12:30

It's just flashed up now but by the time I slide down to see what it says, it's gone.
Op I don't understand what you mean?

NancyBotwinBloom · 03/10/2020 12:30

None and I live in a high alert area.

Bunnybigears · 03/10/2020 12:31

Haven't had a single one, downloaded the app on the day it came out. I'm in a North East city which is apparently over run with Covid-19 buy I have been to work, town, supermarket, school run football practice and not a single alert.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2020 12:31

Oh I do see. Has it = covid??
Wow.

News story about it. I’ve had a couple, including one at 11.45 last night which kept me awake worrying for at least an hour. Then another this morning that had me fiddling with my phone for ages trying to work out if I had the notifications settings wrong or something. I ended up googling in frustration and found the above report.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2020 12:31

I've had about 6 over the last couple of days. It's really annoying!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2020 12:33

There we w thing on BBC news app about it yesterday. For those who are already anxious about it. It must be incredibly worrying.
