I’m hoping for some advice from anyone who might have some experience on this subject.
Quick background. My mother in law has recently passed away. She had been in hospital for 2 weeks before she died.
She was a blue badge holder and whilst in hospital they told my 80 year father in law that he could park in the hospital free of charge every day he visited my mother in law (apparently this was registered/noted with the hospital).
My father in law has just informed us that he has had several Parking Charge Notice forms (private company) come through fining him £70 for these hospital visits. He has been sitting on them, fretting whilst grieving for my mother in law not knowing what to do, he has now received a ‘Letter before county court claim’ which is obviously causing him more anxiety.
None of these letters/fines are registered/signed for deliveries just sent through normal post.
There is lots of advice online to ignore these fines as they aren’t issued by local government. But what is the best way to go with these? Should he carry on ignoring them, contact the company, contact the hospital? Will it go as far as going to court?
I once had these from a different company when I had parked in McDonald’s 5 mins over the allotted time, I ignored and after several threatening letters they stopped sending them but obviously this isn’t me it’s my grieving father in law and we don’t want to give him more stress but the hospital had advised him he could park for free anytime he visited. I have tried ringing the lady who arranged this for him but he phone constantly rings!
