HELP! NURSERY ISSUE.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 10:47

Good morning!

So when my daughter has a nasty fall or feels a shock of pain she will hold her breath and have a sort of fit/seizure. It literally lasts 60-90 seconds. Shes had 3 her entire life. Informed the Doctors and they have referred her to neurology. I also informed the nursery and they said that they can't accept my daughter back until they have a letter from the doctor stating;

  1. What happens
  2. Shes been referred
  3. What to do in the event. Which is call an ambulance
So I called the docs yesterday and the receptionist said she doesnt know if the doctors will give me one! And to call back Monday. Now in panicking. I need her in nursery so I can work. Please someone tell me the doctors will provide a letter Confused I've not slept for worrying. If they dont I havent a clue what to do!

I did not put words in your mouth Confused, I actually quoted the words you used. I'm also not talking down to you. You are talking down to others though. You've had several posts deleted.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 16:24

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion yes I'm the embarrassing one here. Your trying to put words into my mouth and I've proved you wrong. Bye.

This thread is interesting to me. Cyanotic breath holding spells weren't uncommon amongst my siblings growing up, so when my oldest started to turn purple and pass out as an infant, I wasn't hugely surprised.

It looks awful. Stopping breathing, convulsions, purple face, loss of bladder control, before losing consciousness completely and.

But the response I had was very different to yours, OP. There weren't any neurology referrals. The GP observed an attack during a vaccination and assured me that it was common. (It really was. DD would stop breathing not only when hurt but also whenever anyone told her "no". The poor kid may as well have had pillows strapped to her during the toddler years.)

Does your child not recover on her own, that she needs an ambulance?

The nursery did ask me to write a down what to do if it happened, but that was all.

(She did mostly grow out of it, but we're all still a little prone to abrupt losses of consciousness on occasion)

FippertyGibbett · 03/10/2020 16:34

Speak to your Health Visitor and get a care plan written up.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 16:36

She doesn't even need an ambulance, she recovers perfectly fine. And carrys on doing her thing after a little cry. I'm sorry you had to go through it too it sounds like you dealt with it more then me. Shes only ever had 3 and very far apart from each other. Hopefully I'll get the letter and I can breathe again

@FippertyGibbett Its been about 2 years since I had contact with health visitor I wouldn't know where to start with contacting one? Thanks for the advice

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/10/2020 16:38

You haven't "proved me wrong" about anything. Anyway, I genuinely hope your dd is ok, and hope you calm down a bit.

FippertyGibbett · 03/10/2020 16:38

Ask your GP surgery for their phone number.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 16:41

Thank you shes fine. Doubt I'll calm down anytime soon. Sorry for being rude, I'm going through some stuff and this has tipped me over the edge a bit. I'm a single mom and I cant afford any time off and if I cant get help from the GP I dont know what I'm going to do. I'm worried sick. Truly sorry.

Will do thanks.

I'm pretty sure the GP will provide you with a letter. I can't see why they wouldn't. If not, could you take parental leave, or sick leave until it's sorted?

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 17:03

I'm willing to pay whatever fee. This is where I meant they cant leave me without childcare over a letter. I completely understand why the nursery have said what they have. I can but it will be unpaid, I have no other childcare options either.

Would wfh be an option for a while. Obviously not ideal with a small child but better than not working at all?

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 17:15

Thanks for trying to find solutions but that's also not an option I'm a deputy manager in a care home for the NHS I have to work shifts and be on site due to the nature of the clients.

@Otherthinkingmommy hope all goes well Monday, im sure gp will be able to help.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 17:22

@Ffsseriously thank you for the support. I think it need to accept the fact that it gets sorted when its sorted. I can't see why they would say no. Just need to bypass the receptionist lol

I was a childminder. I had a child who would pass out in similar circumstances. We sat down talked it through I gave her a format of what I'd need from her.
Eg when it will happen
What it looks like to others
How to deal with it in the moment, eg cuddle
How to deal with it after, make sure she's visibly fine, then act normal. If in doubt ring parent, if ill ring ambulance.

All anyone can do is follow parents advice, I spoke to my insurer and they said I'd do the same with any physical illness, eg agree a plan with parents.

RefriedBeanz · 03/10/2020 23:32

The only other thing I can suggest, if you don’t manage to get the letter in time, is phoning the nursery and explaining that. Maybe you can go through a care plan over the phone and tell them you will get the doctors note ASAP. As long as they know exactly what to do, should anything happen to your dd, they may agree to keep her.

This is what we did when my twins started nursery, and now school. They didn’t ask for a doctors note but we had to fill in a detailed care plan as they both have Asthma.

It’s worth a try if all other options have been exhausted.

Otherthinkingmommy · 04/10/2020 08:58

Hi @RefriedBeanz it's not that I wont get it on time it's just me panicking that they wont give me one at all xx
