HELP! NURSERY ISSUE.

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 10:47

Good morning!

So when my daughter has a nasty fall or feels a shock of pain she will hold her breath and have a sort of fit/seizure. It literally lasts 60-90 seconds. Shes had 3 her entire life. Informed the Doctors and they have referred her to neurology. I also informed the nursery and they said that they can't accept my daughter back until they have a letter from the doctor stating;

  1. What happens
  2. Shes been referred
  3. What to do in the event. Which is call an ambulance
So I called the docs yesterday and the receptionist said she doesnt know if the doctors will give me one! And to call back Monday. Now in panicking. I need her in nursery so I can work. Please someone tell me the doctors will provide a letter Confused I've not slept for worrying. If they dont I havent a clue what to do!

@pastandpresent again I fully understand. This wasnt my issue or question.

Who's trying to start an argument. The only person snapping at people is you.
What exactly is your question then?

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 13:59

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion says the one leaving pointless comments on a thread. Read it again and give useful helpful advice or go about your day.

🙄 hard to give advice when you haven't actually made clear what you are asking.

pastandpresent · 03/10/2020 14:02

First, calm down. Your stressing about issues doesn't help you in any way.
You need to speak to the dr/gp, whoever knows about your child's needs. It's very regular thing once the child starts school settings that they want care plans.

It came as a shock because it was the first time, I felt the same, when we were speaking with nursery manager casually before starting and once I mentioned his allergy and epipen, it turned out to be a big issue .
I didn't know then. But I know now. The doctors will provide the care plan, I don't know in your case, but for free in my ds's case.

OP, I'm sorry you're worried but it sounds like you're doing everything you can. The doctors sound like they're going to address it, you can't do anything until Monday so try not to worry over the weekend. As PP have said you may need to pay, but I don't see why they wouldn't do it. They provide care plan information for all sorts of settings and a huge range of medical needs.

As an aside: everyone on here has tried to help, and they've responded to the words you've written. In reply, you've told them they've got it wrong, and taken your frustration out on them. So you've asked for help, received it, and got snarky at well-meaning posters who took time to answer. That's a shame, but do I hope this thread has helped calm your worries over this situation.

Op I found epilepsy action really helpful - they may be able to tell you what to do for the best in this situation - I consulted them over seizures (ultimately turned out not to be epilepsy) but their advice was brilliant

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 14:13

@pastandpresent she hasnt even got a diagnoses. It's hard to stay calm because I am the sole earner. Without this childcare, I cant work and I cant pay bills and rent. Thanks for the advice.

Attacking people who are trying to help you isn’t really on. Especially as you haven’t made it clear what it is you want.

Please someone tell me the doctors will provide a letter

Literally, not one person can do this, unless they’re psychic. You have to wait it out and see what the doctor days.

The doctor can’t refuse to write a letter but the nursery can refuse to look after your son without one.

If I were you, I’d have a back up childcare plan in case the letter doesn’t come through.

Onceuponatimethen · 03/10/2020 14:13

I get why you feel panicked op - this would really stress me out Flowers

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 14:15

@ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule I'm frustrated at people putting words into my mouth. Its quite clear what I'm trying to say. But thanks for the advice. I dont know if the doctors will deal with it as I have yet to speak to one regarding this situation

Op Epilepsy Action helpline is open now - until 4pm and I think you would benefit from speaking to them. They really were GREAT when I called.

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 14:17

Its common practise for a nursery to do this
They need a care plan in place so everyone knows how to care for your daughter

If there's literally nothing you can do until the doctors' open on Monday, then you do yourself no good worrying about it in the meantime. Try to park it and enjoy your weekend with your DD.

Ffsseriously · 03/10/2020 14:19

Crikey i hope you are nicer and communicate with more clarity with the doctors and the nursery. I know you are stressed that is no excusevfor a grown up to be so rude. You did not make yourself clear at all. No biggie but your response made it more of an issue. You definitely need to calm down before you talk to doctor and the nursery.

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 14:19

Cant see why a doctor wouldn't,
Just explain you need it for nursery.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 03/10/2020 14:25

I don't know if this will help, but my OH is a GP and he says that it is likely the GP will provide a letter - for a small fee - so speak to them on Monday and try not to worry unduly in the meantime. I know how stressful it is when all you want to do is be able to go to work and keep the family afloat financially. If the receptionist is unhelpful/ you struggle to get an appointment, request to speak to the practice manager.

Poppinjay · 03/10/2020 14:25

I've cared for a child in a nursery who had RAS and held him on one occasion when it happened. It's distressing to see and frightening if you don't understand what's happening but it's perfectly manageable in a childcare setting.

The child's HV came in alongside the parent and explained things to us. We had a care plan for him, made sure everyone working with him was briefed and then got on with it. Your nursery should do the same.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/10/2020 14:40

OP you just keep telling g me to get off the thread, but you still haven't made it clear what you are asking.

Badger2033 · 03/10/2020 14:46

Is your DD not under Pediatrics for that? Would be standard for a consultant to issue that sort of letter but less so a GP.

My DS consultant has issued paperwork with info / action plan etc for when my child attends nursery / school as standard and a new one is issued every 6 months. I think you need to ask your GP why your DD has not been referred to the care of a peadiatrition as well as a specialist.

Heartofstrings · 03/10/2020 14:53

My child breath holds and loses consciousness with a shock. I'm now concerned he needs a care plan. Nursery were very relaxed when I told them

Otherthinkingmommy · 03/10/2020 14:54

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum thank you so much for your reply. That's given me hope so thank you so much
