Suddenly getting heartburn every night!

I have no idea what’s going on. Out of the blue I got horrible heartburn one evening. That was about a week ago and it’s happened every evening since.

I haven’t changed my diet or eating habits at all. It’s also not triggered by me lying down. It comes on early evening, maybe an hour after I’ve eaten dinner. Help!

What are you eating for dinner? After it happened the first time you may have inflammed things in your throat/esophagus.

This was my first symptom of Covid. I had it for about 2 weeks before the proper Covid symptoms kicked in. Maybe get a test.

Defo not pregnant. Well I’m on contraception at least and haven’t dtd much recently.

Evening meals I’ve had in the last week include; an Indian (mild curry), roast chicken and potatoes, tuna pasta, sausage ratatouille, gammon joint. All with plenty of veg.

Oh no way @hollieberrie 🙈 hopefully it’s not that. We do live in an area with pretty few cases and I don’t know anyone nearby who has had it yet.

Well the curry and the ratatouille could have been the culprits due to the spice/acidity. If you overate at all also.

FineAndDandyy · 02/10/2020 23:03

Probably irrelevant but I did have a flu jab on Monday? I’d imagine that’s not linked to the heartburn.

There was no spice in either the curry or ratatouille (I don’t eat anything spicy). But yes, possibly the acidity. It’s just strange how it only starts in the evening. I’ve been taking ranitidine which has definitely been helping.

I really thought i was pregnant and did several.tests, but no.. bloody Covid. I hope its not that for you!

FineAndDandyy · 02/10/2020 23:17

I’ve just done a pregnancy test to be on the safe side (had a spare one lying around from a previous pregnancy scare). I’m definitely not pregnant. Phew...

I normally eat a fair bit of chocolate but I have cut back to see if that’s the culprit but no joy 😩

Same!! I have had every day for 2 weeks now and I had to get omeprazole.
That's helping things a bit but no idea why it's just started and doesn't seem to be going away.
Feels like a constant lump in my throat and upper stomach pain acid reflux 😫

FineAndDandyy · 02/10/2020 23:36

It’s such a strange one isn’t it @scotsllb! Literally started out of nowhere, with no apparent cause and no way of getting it to budge. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a weird Covid symptom, like what happened to @hollieberrie

OP posts:
WillyWasAWatchdog · 02/10/2020 23:37

Could it be stress? Always triggers my acid reflux.

FineAndDandyy · 02/10/2020 23:41

Hmmmmm... I have just started a new job, so it’s possible @WillyWasAWatchdog

I've suffered a lot of stress lately and I'm hoping that's what's caused it.
Google has not been my friend and I really shouldn't try self diagnosing lol!!
I read stress hasn't directly been attributed to it but can worsen it?
I had a very stressful time last year and had the same thing so hopefully that's what it's down to.

Feelingpoorlysick · 03/10/2020 00:23

This is something I've suffered with since feb, after I was ill for over 3 weeks with a virus (probably covid)

Gp says it seems to be quite a common long term after effect.

Have you tried rennies? I have to take them most evenings now.
