How can I make extra money?

TickleThePickle · 02/10/2020 22:24

My best friend and I are both in need of extra money. I am trying to do work on my house and can not borrow enough to complete the work, she needs more money in order to buy a house.

We have been thinking of trying to set up a business on the side to make a bit extra on the side but none of our ideas are very good.

Can anyone recommend something they do on the side of their full time job that brings in some extra money?

Hi @TickleThePickle I have been doing online surveys for years as a way of making extra cash. Some sites are better than others and here are my recommendations:
I joined Swagbucks 15 months ago and have made just under £1900 so far. I'm a bit evangelical about them to be honest as there is tons to do on there. As well as survey income, you get loads of tops up at the end of the month for all the days you hit your daily goal and then they give you extra points when you hit points levels called Swag Ups. Now is a great time to join as when you earn 300 points in the first 30 days, they give you a 300 bonus.

Second favourite: You Gov as you never screen out :

A decent time to join them as lots of easy Covid surveys about. I get £50 every 6-8 weeks. I use a few more panels too but try those and let us know how you get on as they are the best.

I have to say this is not money for zero effort but I find it very easy - I do them in front of the TV and used to do them on buses on the way to/from work. The biggest benefit is you can do as many or as few as you like depending on how much you want to earn. Ask any questions you want and I'll try and help you.

thats amazing, thanks!

We were wondering if we should set up some kind of business but now might not be the time for it.

Go to charity shops and look for designer or decent clothes and sell them for a profit on eBay or Facebook. Won't turn around loads quickly but it tots up

tectonicplates · 02/10/2020 22:44

Approximately how much money do you need? This will affect the sort of answers you get.

Sorry to put a downer on things but Ebay is very slow at the moment. You could always try listing some stuff of course

Interesting! I could do with earning more, I've done Angelfish but more often than not I'm not eligible at the last hurdle.

I am not sure about setting up a new business, as that would incur initial outlay, so now may not be the time, especially if you both need money.

I work a very professional job, but also needed extra cash recently. I became a delivery driver for two local takeways on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

The work isn't hard, I did 5-10pm. Yes the data were longer but it served its purpose avd I was able to bring him an extra 120-150 per week. It helped pay some u expected bills.

Also got me out of the house (WFH) and gave me a new respect for takeway delivery drivers!

Matched betting. It's a great hobby and the winnings are tax free. Have a look at OddsMonkey and Team Profit. I made over £12,000 doing it as a sideline.

My friend works 4 days a week, and also does two evenings a week as a waitress in a restaurant.

TickleThePickle · 03/10/2020 12:43

Love the idea of doing takeaway driving. I could definitely look into something like that.

@DappledOliveGroves how long did it take you to accumulate that amount and what is the best way to learn how to.do matched betting? I have looked into it before but I couldn't quite get my head around it.

@TickleThePickle I did it on and off for about three years but if you have the time and inclination then you can certainly make that amount much more quickly.

I'd definitely start with OddsMonkey and also join the Team Profit Facebook newbies group. It's a bit weird getting your head around it initially but once it clicks then you'll be fine.
