WWYD? Pregnancy related

Over the past few days I've noticed feelings of movement in my stomach. I've had feelings before that I knew were just wind but these feel a bit different and they particularly set me off worrying today at work when I was sat there I could feel it noticeably where usually I only ever notice it when I'm laid in bed.

I was wondering if it's all in my head as I'm still having periods but it was weird cause in the staff room it just happened to get brought up that a colleagues daughter had no idea she was pregnant until 6 weeks before she was due as she was still having bleeding she thought was her period every month.

She mentioned her daughter was overweight and was carrying towards her back so her bump wasn't big or obvious but she was having back pain.

I'm a few stone overweight and tend to carry on my stomach so a bump wouldn't be obvious on me just yet either and I have been complaining about my back feeling unusually achy. I'm not one to have back ache, I have been having tonnes of hot flush type feelings for a couple of months too but put it down to stress. An unusual amount of headaches for me as well

So after hearing that story I dashed straight to get a test after work which was negative.

I'm still getting the strange feeling in my stomach, the furthest along I could possibly be is 4-5 months

I'm starting to think it's just in my head but I don't know why now all of a sudden this is something I'd be fixating on?!

I thought the negative test would make me feel completely switched off from it but it's still playing on my mind

WWYD if this was you? Surely a test would've been an obvious yes if I'm feeling movement anyway?

Bumping in hope of a response!

The chances of you getting to 4/5 months of pregnancy (which is what you'd need to be before you felt movement) whilst still having periods, having had no first trimester symptoms AND producing a negative pregnancy test are miraculously slim to none so I wouldn't worry :)

KenBarlow · 02/10/2020 20:04

@bm2021 I really hope you're right! It had crossed my mind but I wasn't overly concerned until my colleague mentioned her daughter's experience! I'm hoping another week or so and the "movement" will stop and I'll have forgotten all about it Blush

This seems to happen a lot on MN.

KenBarlow · 02/10/2020 23:18

@Hokeywokey as in where they think they can feel things but there's nothing there?

PurpleDaisies · 02/10/2020 23:19
Hmm
UserABCDE12345 · 03/10/2020 01:15

Yeah, seems to have happened to quite a few MNetters. Odd when it's something so rare.

DarcyParty · 03/10/2020 14:16

You've tested and it was negative. You aren't pregnant.

KenBarlow · 03/10/2020 19:45

@DarcyParty I think it's just got into my head! I think without my colleague saying what she said I would've just forgotten all about it by now. I'm wondering if cause it's on my mind I'm noticing the feelings in my stomach even more

PurpleGoose · 03/10/2020 19:50

I thought pregnancy tests weren't accurate once you're further along and can produce false negatives? Personally I'd try to wait a couple of days to see if the 'movements' disappear and if not go to the GP.

PurpleDaisies · 03/10/2020 20:08

That’s a myth purple.

PurpleDaisies · 03/10/2020 20:11

Posted too soon. There is the hook effect but that’s really rare.

The op is having periods. Periods plus negative test-not pregnant.

PurpleGoose · 03/10/2020 20:33

@purpledaisys I know 4 different people who had 'periods' throughout pregnancy. I also know a lady who didn't know she was pregnant until 3 weeks before she gave birth, she had a negative pregnancy test early on and thought her lack of periods was due to the menopause!

PurpleGoose · 03/10/2020 20:34

Sorry the above message should tag @purpledaisies

KenBarlow · 04/10/2020 08:39

@PurpleGoose I keep swapping between thinking I can definitely feel something unusual to thinking I'm being totally ridiculous and I'm losing the plot!

I'm going to see what happens today and I'll ring the doctors first thing tomorrow if I feel unsure still

I just keep thinking how can I even be worrying when I've had my periods etc but then the feeling I get feels so convincing.
I've had lots of movement over the years but it's always been when I've been windy Blush and I'm not windy at all at the minute!

@kenbarlow I've also read on similar threads about other medical reasons for the sensation e.g fibroids. so probably best to get checked out. It's likely not to be pregnancy, but could be something else that won't just resolve itself.

Hope you find an answer.

KenBarlow · 04/10/2020 11:10

@PurpleGoose that's a good point, it could be something else still couldn't it. I've had problems in the past where I've had a scan to check for abnormalities due to bleeding between periods etc. It was a couple of years ago so I didn't really think about it until now. All ended up being fine thankfully but it might be worth mentioning it in relation to this too

Curlygirl06 · 04/10/2020 11:28

I personally know 2 people who didn't know they were pregnant until they had the baby! They were a bit overweight, had normal periods (for them) throughout the whole pregnancy so it's not rare.
I also know several people who didn't know until they were very advanced, so it's not as rare as you think.

AngeloMysterioso · 04/10/2020 11:35

You’re almost definitely not preggo but I’d get it checked out anyway in case it’s something else

KenBarlow · 04/10/2020 12:53

Definitely going to call the doctors first thing tomorrow, even if it just puts my mind at ease it'll be worth it. I've kept having the feeling again today, I hope it turns out I'm just full of wind Grin

The sensible side of me is thinking that I obviously won't be pregnant due to the periods and negative test, but the feeling I'm getting is so convincing I keep thinking what else could it be

I'll be mortified if I'm pregnant partly because I've been drinking a LOT more than usual since lockdown began

Do you already have a child?

The reason I ask is because I feel phantom kicks even though my son is 2.5 years old. I feel them mainly in the areas he used to kick the most.

KenBarlow · 04/10/2020 13:04

I do but he's 8! I remember getting those feelings when he was younger but not as much more recently.

It could be a return of the phantom kicks though!
