If you kept Indian takeaway in the fridge how long would it be ok to eat?

I've read 24hours but also 3 days.

We eat it the next day. Wouldn’t keep it longer, especially not rice.

Elieza · 02/10/2020 17:41

I’d say the next day only for any takeaway.

Heat anything up thoroughly, especially rice and meat, or you’ll get food poisoning. Or just eat cold, eg cold pizza Grin

Rice I'd only use the next day (if it had been cooled and refridgerated quickly). Anything else probably 2-3 days.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2020 17:41

I'd eat it as late as the following night (and microwave the shit out of it).

The next day for me although not the rice

EternalOptimist7 · 02/10/2020 17:42

I would have thought 3 days would be a bit long. We don’t often have leftovers anyway but if we do, I have them for breakfast the next day.

Depends what it is. Rice I wouldn't keep at all. We are veggie so any sort of curry would be fine 2-3 days. Meat dishes probably less.

I leave takeaway... including rice... for 3 days on a weekly basis and have never had an issue.

Make sure you chill the rice down very rapidly though.

Curry 3ish days, rice up to a week. I make our weekly rice on a Monday and we eat it until Sunday, its fine.

I've eaten it 3 days later and that included the rice. Delicious.

@SimonJT the problem with takeaways is that they may have already done this so the rice you have just bought for dinner could already be five days old or something! You have no way of knowing.

My pal was sick after a Chinese once and told the environmental health and it turned out that’s what the takeaway was doing, batch cooking the whole weeks rice in one go and reheating when someone bought a takeaway. So when she reheated hers the following day it was reheated twice (once by them when she bought it and then again by her) and it was a week old. The environmental health told them off for this practice. I’m not sure if it was just because it was a takeaway premises and they have higher standards than the likes of what I do, or just not a good idea, as rice can be dodgy at the best of times.

They were however told by the environmental health that this was unacceptable and they must prepare fresh rice. So I hope all the other premises in the area were checked for this practice too, as if one doesn’t know that’s the deal others may not!

I wouldn’t batch cook rice. I’d be too scared.
