How efficient are you really when working from home?

This has probably been done to death but at the peak of lockdown I wasn't working so wouldn't have read those threads.

I go through bursts of getting my head down and then find I start losing focus. Now, for instance, whilst I am on MN I am officially working.

I don't think I'm slacking off. I put the hours in. I get the work done. I suppose if I were in the office I would be having tea breaks and chatting at times.

But I feel so guilty for not working every minute of the day.

Oh god, I'm awful. I'll point out firstly that I should have this covered - as I've literally been WFH (or my own office/coffeeshop/whatever - but no boss anyway) since 2012 when I first graduated. It's the only style of work I've ever known.

Things that could take an hour take two, because if I'm at home I realise I have to put washing in, go shopping, or do some other chore - basically anything other than what I'm meant to do! If I'd worked to my full capacity like a normal person all these years I honestly think I'd be rich by now!

I’m probably more efficient working at home - less distracted by opportunities to chat to colleagues!! Plus am no longer doing a very long commute so am using a lot of that time to do work. However, over the summer I did occasionally peg out washing on sunny days, and I try to move away from my lap top to eat lunch now whereas in an office I would just munch a sandwich whilst staring at the screen.

I think I am more efficient. Very glad to not commuting every day, enjoying a daily walk somewhere, and also not having to be up within a very narrow time period each morning.

Very. Insanely productive.

I really miss my colleages, but I'm getting through a power of work of high quality.

I'm able to work the time I would have been commuting and then take a break at some point to get some fresh air and exercise, and I think that's helping my productivity as well.

I work longer hours (as I tend to just log on after seeing the dc off on their bus at 8.15) and I get more done as I'm able to focus better without colleagues asking questions every few minutes. I love it.
