Late to the party with the A word on IPlayer. Just finished season 1.
CE MADE the show - bloody wonderful.
He did make up for the awful mother - good god, she was vile and the most self entitled character ( her reaction to the Police re her childminder being deported was despicable).
And why did they let a 5 year old go out every morning on his own walking?? Bonkers.

But Christopher was perfection - hope him and the music teacher make up in season 2.

He’s a brilliant actor. His Dr Who was one of the best I think & didn’t last long enough imo

emilyfrost · 02/10/2020 12:26

Love Christopher Eccleston; met him in real life and he’s a true gent. Very kind.

He was my favourite Dr Who too (I adored David Tenant but would have loved Christopher Eccleston to do more than one series!). Drs went downhill after those two...

JMAngel1 · 02/10/2020 19:59

yes I agree he was a fantastic Dr Who too - massively underated.

I've just finished watching the end of series 3 of the A word and I wholeheartedly agree! He makes the series and is so funny and likeable throughout.

LucilleBluth · 02/10/2020 21:29

I’ve met him ...I say smugly 😀

TheYeaSayer · 02/10/2020 21:42

He was the only reason I continued watching the A Word as the other characters were so annoying and lacking charisma (especially the fat uncle. What a spare character).
CE’s character Maurice, on the other hand was fantastic. CE played him so well and stole every scene he was in.

romany4 · 02/10/2020 21:55

He's the best Doctor in my eyes.
I loved him in Our friends in the North, Cracker and Clocking off too.
Wonderful actor

Rentacar · 02/10/2020 22:28

Yep! An amazing actor in everything he does. He totally makes The A Word.

Very underrated as an actor IMO.

Loved his and David Tennant's Dr Who. Don't think it would have made a comeback without those two.

Rentacar · 02/10/2020 22:29

Just bought his book too.

Siddalee · 02/10/2020 22:36

I spotted him on a railway platform once, waiting for the train tog o home after a day out drinking cocktails with friends. Had to grab his arm and tell him I thought he was the best doctor! Wanted to tell him that I'd watched him since Our Friends up North and think everything he's done is just brilliant- but I was more than a little inebriated star struck!

He was lovely, he turned round and said "Tell my ma!" She was stood behind him. Then he told me and my friends that we were looking lovely tonight!! I'm fat and over 50! He made my night

JMAngel1 · 03/10/2020 17:38

Just watched the last episode Season 2 - him standing at Louise’s door with his ass hanging out Grin
Priceless.

I thought The A Word was dreary, po-faced nonsense but CE as Maurice was superb.

He's a great actor. So funny and watchable and have always fancied him massively since his Who days. Seeks like a top bloke irl too, nice to read accounts of MNers confirming this 😊.

Thatnameistaken · 03/10/2020 17:52

I got the hots for him when he played a psychotic flatmate in Shallow Grave, he's bloody great.
And get yourselves over to youtube and search for "proof" by "I am kloot". Your vaginas will explode!!!!

Dontsayyouloveme · 03/10/2020 18:07

I’ve met him too... sooo nice and down to earth! X

Rentacar · 03/10/2020 18:07

Siddalee - That's so nice to hear that he's lovely and wanted you to tell his Mam. I've also had the hots for him since Our Friends in the North. He was the hottest one in it!

Sideorderofchips · 03/10/2020 18:08

He's amazing in everything he's in. I have little crush

JMAngel1 · 03/10/2020 21:52

@Thatnameistaken. Lord, that Proof video is soul wrenching - ended up beaming from ear to ear by end.

Loved him in this too. Does anyone else recall the programme he was in where he believed he was Jesus? I remember being incredibly moved by that.
