pants get bigger as you get older, right?

Just bought myself some new undies in M&S. Such excitement for a friday morning.

In my 20s and late teens I would have been straight at the thongs, or the tiny little bikini briefs. A decade later, after a couple of pregnancies, those were a thing of the past and it was firmly into the mini briefs. Now i'm in my 40s. Recently had an abdominal hysterectomy and needed a pair of knickers which didn't have a seam anywhere near my (hefty) scar. Midi knickers all the way.

Was browsing the knicker shelves and wondering when I'll switch up another gear and catch myself thinking that the full briefs which come up to your armpits look comfy. And what comes after that? Full on corset or a woolly vest too?

Yep, I'm 50 and it's full briefs all the way now! I am single though (and planning to stay that way) so no one see's my undies! I just find them so comfortable.

hedgehogger1 · 02/10/2020 12:40

I accidentally bought some giant pants once. Online and not reading properly. Couldn't be arsed to take them back so wore them. Loved them. So comfy. Never bought another pack coz I am (just) still in my 30s. But they get worn more than any others

BoulangerieBabs · 02/10/2020 12:40

Nothing nicer than a pair of Sloggi full pants in your 50's Grin

I’m in my mid forties and am actively looking for a polo neck pair.

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/10/2020 12:46

I’m in my 50s and it’s thongs all the way for me (if anything at all... no VPLs, lol.)

Namara · 02/10/2020 12:49

I have c section overhang which I hate and don't want to draw attention to.

I only wear those Brazilian pants if I also have a Basque type thing on as well and that's a rare occasion.

99% of the time it's full briefs for me and I'm 33!!

H1978 · 02/10/2020 12:49

Nothing like a full brief for comfort and the added bonus of keeping your belly warm.

Christ I stopped giving a shit about vpl about 20 years ago. If anyone is offended by the line of my pants under my outer clothes then that's their problem, not mine.
Sarahlou63 · 02/10/2020 12:53

57 here and been commando since my hysterectomy!! Have one pair for the doctor and the waxing saloon...

BabyItsAWildWorld · 02/10/2020 13:44

Not necessarily.
I'm 50 and still wearing thongs to prevent a VPL.

StarlightLady · 02/10/2020 15:26

@Sarahlou63 - For me that is just a summer sport! Although l don’t wear knickers with tights if they have a cotton gusset. The tights stop put that way.

All these posts show that we are not a herd and different shapes suit different people.

Brazillians suit me because l don’t like, elastic on the legs, that’s a comfort thing.

I won’t wear white or beige though, that’s a personal thing.

I may be in my 40s but l still get seen in (and out) of my knix quite regularly! Grin

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/10/2020 16:00

Not in this house
My teenage dd wears full briefs
Mine are the tiny thongs
We both like black tho

Each to their own

Liland · 02/10/2020 17:12

I had the giant full briefs for post c section, but I'm actually finding the m&s midis more comfy. They actually cover my ass cheeks and stay put (not sure what's wrong with my ass that normal pants don't do that, it's not that big I swear!). Midis all the way for the (hopefully) next baby and section.

CottonSock · 02/10/2020 17:15

I'm obsessed with avoiding vpl, literally obsessed. But can't tolerate a thong. Usually it's full pants or shorts, but sometimes only the smoothing cycle shorts length will do.
Is anyone else obsessed with their vpl as I've only just realised this may not be normal!

Ginfordinner · 02/10/2020 17:23

Why?

I wear jeans most of the time. If I went commado I would have to put clean jeans on every day. It is a good bit easier to wash 7 pairs of pants a week than 7 pairs of jeans.

What makes you think anyone is looking at you?

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/10/2020 17:39

@CottonSock
I used to be vpl obsesssed. To the extent of checking out my rear in the mirror in every outfit.

Now I'm nearly 60, I know NOBODY is checking out my backside and I am a lot more relaxed about it.

Still wear big pants though.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/10/2020 17:44

I am maximus of glutemus maximus and even before CS scars/ overhangs and generous 3rd degree tears I couldn't endure the wedgie from a thong.

I used to like high leg, but since DS1's brutal entrabce into the world, it's been high waists. My 80yo MiL kindly came to stay and help out when DS1 was about a month old... I'd had to send DH out to replace all my old pants with full briefs from the supermarket. Mine and MiLs were indistinguishable other than the brand. Same size. Same huge white granny pants. Blush

Life is too short to ruin it with uncomfortable undergarments and my buttocks devour anything that does not fully cover them.

StarlightLady · 02/10/2020 18:15

Comfortable is not at the opposite end of the spectrum to colourful, stylish, soft lace and pretty!

For me the key ingredrient is stretch, it’s not about being up to the naval or bum coverage.

MuseumOfYou · 02/10/2020 18:29

I'm just 55 and been wearing high leg midis up to now but have had 3 sections in the past and put on some weight and they kept rolling down and rubbing on my scar.

I've just ordered 15 pairs of full briefs and now I'm sure I won't go back- the comfort is heavenly. I've tried to choose nice patterns and lace trimmed so as not to look like my own gran. Haven't shared with DH yet. Suspect he won't be overly impressed. But I feel totally liberated.

SpeedofaSloth · 02/10/2020 18:30

Yes. I am 45 and my knickers are proper belly warmers. By the time I am 60 I expect to be in shorts.

CottonSock · 02/10/2020 19:15

I don't think anyone is looking at my vpl particularly, I just think it looks hideous.. Its like it's distorted in my mind like some kind of dysmorphia.

CottonSock · 02/10/2020 19:16

I'm size 8-10 but have a wobbly bottom.. in my eyes it's at least a size 50.

LadyButton · 02/10/2020 19:28

I have basically been buying the same style of pants from M&S since I was a teenager. Anything else just feels wrong.

I’ll probably buy them for as long as they sell them!

hunneebunnee · 02/10/2020 19:31

@RaininSummer

Yep giant pants are great. My Mum's friend calls them 'harvest knickers' because 'all is safely gathered in'.
😂love big knickers myself
