Are we responsible for trimming the trees?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but wondered if anyone knew. We have 2 trees in our front garden that are huge and spread over the main road outside our house. If a branch were to fall off in a winter storm, would we be responsible for any damage? The trees are otherwise healthy but they are big. I was looking online and it says you have to be responsible for trees on your land so we have organised some quotes from a tree surgeon to trim some branches but before we spend nearly 2k on it, I wanted to check we needed to. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks

I believe you ate responsible, yes, though I'm not a lawyer.

We had a huge tree in our garden with a protection order on.

You are liable if you don't keep the tree maintained. However if it happens to fall off in a winter storm and it wasn't rotten or anything you aren't. We checked this quite thoroughly, as it was leaning away from our house.
