Anyone advise on crappy ebay purchase options?

Hello

I recently tried to do a good deed (they all go punished) and surprise my parents with a new kettle.
Bought a new one on ebay, turned up, doesn't work.
I informed seller who promised an immediate replacement with no need to return faulty kettle.
This was 2 weeks ago, obviously I haven't heard from them since, they won't respond to messages and no kettle has been forthcoming.

When I look at my options to complain on ebay, they just seem to involve me sending the kettle back with bugger all else.
Now my semi shielding elderly parents live 100 miles away and I'm not going to ask them to go to the post office.

Do I just have to suck up the lost twenty quid and go buy another one?
This thought annoys me greatly.

Thank you
