What do you do in the evening?

DH has started his Masters this week and I’ve found myself sitting in front of Netflix in the evening when he is watching his lectures/studying. I’d like to do something more productive with the time. I need a new hobby I think.

Please inspire me with your hobby/craft/pass time Smile

I’m a TV producer so for me an hour of TV in the evening is bloody brilliantl.

AriettyHomily · 01/10/2020 21:40

My aunt used to go for a walk at 2130 come rain or shine. I'm trying to emulate.

Otherwise I read and watch shite on tv.

TheRIDs · 01/10/2020 21:41

I tend to feel too tired to read in the evenings on week days, so I listen to audiobooks or occasionally podcasts instead.

I also do a lot of ‘self care’ - bath and beauty stuff, yoga, meditation etc.

Oriflamme · 01/10/2020 21:43

We eat at 6, baby goes to bed between 7-8, DH sometimes goes back to the desk, I usually play an ipad game and text my friends, then DH comes in and we do a jigsaw, crossword or mess about with Lego. I also sew and crochet. Sometimes we sit and read. Pre-lockdown (and baby) we often had evening things to go out to, but not any more!

My nails mostly.....

BlueJava · 01/10/2020 21:51

I am learning a language as part of an online group. I also read, cook a nice meal - like try a new recipe for dinner, embroidery, Future Learn or watch TV is works been especially hard!

blue25 · 01/10/2020 21:51

We tend to watch a film or box set, play a board game or just sit and read/browse the internet. Occasionally I’ll do a jigsaw or some baking. We tend to go for a walk followed by the pub for a drink on a couple of nights a week.

CityDweller · 01/10/2020 21:59

At the moment I’m working most evening, trying to keep my head above water with my workload, which is a bit shit. I have three nights a week I don’t work. Tuesdays I watch GBBO, Friday I stay up too late playing online poker with old friends, Saturday DH and I watch a film and eat chocolate/ drink wine). I knit while watching tv/films too.

When I’m not so busy with work and I haven’t got anything else on it’s often in the evenings that I do ‘life admin’ type stuff like batch cooking, baking, sorting out my paperwork, etc. Rock, and indeed Roll.

Read, tv, look at dog stuff online, play musical instruments, look at crap on phone (trying to really knock that down), eat too much

Blueuggboots · 01/10/2020 22:09

Have a look at MasterClass?

Skyr2 · 01/10/2020 22:19

I watch TV, read, joined a new ‘young’ WI and committee. Make long phone calls to family and friends as I live a long way away from family so do not see them that often - esp at the moment.

Skyr2 · 01/10/2020 22:22

Have just finished another professional exam and have vowed not to do another one as I resent not doing all of the above and having to work on top of work ! Then I forget my resolve and sign up to another one after about 6 months grrrr

Most nights I have a long, hot soak in the bath and then pamper myself.

 • Shave and exfoliate
 • Skin care
 • moisturiser
 • fake tan
 • nails
 • brows
 • hair
It's the only chance I get to sit down and spend a bit of time on myself (single parent, 0 support) so I'm really indulgent and take my time. Candles, music, expensive products. Makes me feel better about myself, especially now it's a bit colder (my skin takes a battering in the winter.)

Apart from that I;

 • Do puzzle books (take a break crosswords/puzzles..) - something to keep my mind active.
 • Knit
 • Paint by numbers
 • Read (I have a Readly subscription which is fab for magazines)
 • Yoga (YouTube tutorials.)
Kolsch · 01/10/2020 23:14

2-3 times a week I go into my garage to play my drums ( it's soundproofed) or I'm doing something online.
Except for one evening a week when I write to my parents with all the news and views and give myself writers cramp.

oobedobe · 01/10/2020 23:14

I am learning how to draw as a new hobby so I usually do that a few nights a week.

Before Covid, I would have an exercise class on one evening and a creative college course one evening, DH had hockey then too. Those are all stopped right now.

During the week we usually watch TV together from 9-11. Friday night we have drinks and a movie night. Sat night is either spent with bubble friends, out for dinner or a family games night.

I read every night too, but once I am in bed.

I try to stay away from my phone/laptop or I spend all evening distracted I find and don't really enjoy it.

Lazysundayafternoons · 02/10/2020 13:20
@Lazysundayafternoons can you share where you got your cross stitches? I fancy having a go!
Amazon have them, if you search for Christmas cross stitch decoration/cushion/stocking. They have lovely christmas stocking sets but I'd need two and just dont think I'd get them done before December

Hoglet70 · 02/10/2020 18:36

Read and drink wine in my pyjamas

Duanphen · 02/10/2020 18:55

Code (I'm a programmer) or game.

Never "sat with DH" as he... I don't know, actually. Works, I think.
