Canetest self test. What's wrong with my vag?

Takingontheworld · 01/10/2020 10:11

went to pharmacy and the pharmacist hadn't turned up. So have been to tescos and purchased a canetest & the creams on assumption i have thrush. I've never had thrush, so a guess.

I: have a graze/cut on my inner lips that initially caused me pain as urine stung it when i went, which drew my attention. Upon looking I seemed a bit redder than usual but graze likely I assumed caused by sex/wiping as happens occasionally - this may or may not be relevant but i note some online stuff says thrush may cause swelling/dry cracks etc so could be. I can only see one significant although it admittedly feels like my vag has been attacked by a thousand claws of tiny kittens.

It does not sting when i actually pee.

I don't have any noticeable discharge and I don't smell

I do however, feel sore. Dry like sandpaper and occasionally an intense vulvar itch.

The test says that if it turns at all green or blue, which mine did however only v v tiny amount, that the PH is out and then you refer to a symptom chart.

Problem is, i don't match. For thrush i match symotoms except for dishcharge but it says the test will stay yellow (negative) if it is too.

Green / blue is positive for increased pH, and the chart says BV or trichomoniasis, but I don't match any of those symptoms (no discharge, smell, or painful urination)

Can't get hold of GP to check.

So. Do I whack the cream for thrush on and hope for best!?!?!

Sorry. Not sure where else to ask!

Incase it's at all relevant: I've been on low carb/keto for around 4 months.

I don’t see how the cream could hurt. You might have a bit of thrush and a bit of something else. I’d put some on now and then ponder.

GreyishDays · 01/10/2020 10:13

Hurt might be a bad choice of words. I mean I don’t think it’ll make anything worse.

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 01/10/2020 11:20

Sounds like BV to me.

You can get BV without those other symptoms.

How old are you? Could it be vaginal atrophy?

Takingontheworld · 01/10/2020 11:24
  1. Googles atrophy...

What is BV?

Takingontheworld · 01/10/2020 11:28

Just googled BV and found a symptom checker and that says it's probably thrush not bv so I'll go chuck this cream on and hope for best for now...

www.nhs.uk/conditions/lichen-sclerosus/

See if your symptoms match. I was diagnosed after having the same issues and after using a canetest. Please do get it checked out, because if it is LS there is a small chance of vulva cancer if left untreated.

SlopesOff · 01/10/2020 12:04

I thought lichen sclerosus too, but having does some reading, it can be caused by toilet paper.

I have found that changing to an eco one, recycled if poss, not bleached, not bamboo makes a lot of difference. Most of them are bleached and they seem to produce little particles that seem harmless but are the cause of soreness.

Some people use washable fabric wipes, made from soft cotton fabric, old t shirts cut up etc.

If you search threads on here you will find more details on the subject.

Takingontheworld · 02/10/2020 07:24

Hmmm I've googled but that doesn't seem quite a fit. I'm not experiencing any thinning I don't think.

I've been using the thrush cream all day yday (3x applications) how long until it gets better. The itch is intolerable this morning!

If you didn't see my post above yours - check your toilet paper.

Just one article on the subject. www.glamour.com/story/heres-how-your-toilet-paper-could-be-messing-with-your-vagina#:~:text=%E2%80%9CToilet%20paper%20can%20irritate%20your,if%20you%20don't%20use

Sounds like thrush to me tbh

Littleyellowbowl · 02/10/2020 13:02

Try thrush treatment, you'll need the cream for the outside and an internal pessary.

If it doesn't work try your Dr, does the area ever bleed? I had stinging, itching and a patch of what I describe as a rough patch which sometimes bled and it was VIN3 which is caused by HPV.

Snow234 · 02/10/2020 13:10

I’d get a canesten duo with a pessery. Put I in before bed and you will or should notice a difference within 24rs.

Fingers crossed for you.

NiceGerbil · 02/10/2020 13:17

I find the tablet way better than the cream.

Mega itch sounds very familiar :(

Takingontheworld · 02/10/2020 16:36

I've got the internal cream (bought the duo pack) which I'll insert tonight. Is it not as good as the pessary? I've never self administered a pessary so a bit apprehensive.

Apologies, slopesoff, i wish there was a like function to recognise you've acknowledged a post. I'm definitely going to look into this further. Thank you

passthemustard · 02/10/2020 16:44

If it's not getting better it's not thrush.

If the test went blue/green for BV it's probably BV.

I'd see a doctor as BV can cause other problems if left untreated.

Takingontheworld · 02/10/2020 16:55

I'll make an appointment to be sure too. Was hoping not to waste go time!
