What do you mean by "an intellectual"? If you mean someone who is well read, interesting to talk to at dinner parties, etc., then no, the typical MBA course does not produce such a person.

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 21:10

A masters of business administration? No, not really.

Hoglet70 · 30/09/2020 21:10

Hmmm no.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 30/09/2020 21:10

Eh? No. Why on earth would it?

ceeveebee · 30/09/2020 21:11

No, it’s more like a professional qualification than an academic one in my experience. A DBA perhaps is. Why do you ask?

netstaller · 30/09/2020 21:11

I think it's become the new finishing school for rich kids rather than the really accomplished

TheGinGenie · 30/09/2020 21:11

No

ODFOx · 30/09/2020 21:13

No. On top of academic qualifications it's just a sign that you are interested in business. Not particularly rigorous and certainly not a sign of scholarship in a holder.

Campalumpa · 30/09/2020 21:14

I have one, I am no intellechewal

AnnaMagnani · 30/09/2020 21:25

God no.

whywhywhy6 · 30/09/2020 21:28

No

Pedallleur · 30/09/2020 21:29

It's an expected qualification in some jobs e.g. banking, commerce but it shows you have a theoretical knowledge of the subject. Intellectual? No.

Tolleshunt · 30/09/2020 21:29

Absolutely not, it is all about business, not anything remotely intellectual.

RainbowMum11 · 30/09/2020 21:36

No it doesn't.

It does not make you an intellectual at all - just 'up' on business stuff.

MrsJemimaDuck · 30/09/2020 21:38

...no.

No

HerNameWasEliza · 30/09/2020 21:43

I just started one! And no, I don't think so.

PercyKirke · 30/09/2020 21:45

No. I know 3 MBAs. None of them are particularly intellectual.

ThrawnCow · 30/09/2020 21:46

Ha ha no.

Totopoly · 30/09/2020 21:47

I got a PhD 30 years ago. Then, an MBA was a professional qualification rather than an academic/"intellectual" one.

MayFayre · 30/09/2020 21:48

Typically, no. However the most intelligent and well read person I know has one (not me!).

MumTumLovesPuns · 30/09/2020 21:49

Rather depends on the person who holds it and the focus of the course, there are lots of people who do them, from lots of backgrounds and for lots of reasons. So yes, you can be an intellectual and have an MBA, you can be intellectual and not have a masters of any kind. It's all down to the individual.

Disclaimer-I'm an academic with an MBA.

MajesticWhine · 30/09/2020 21:51

It's a no from me

andadietcoke · 30/09/2020 21:52

I have an MBA. It felt almost vocational. It requires some intelligence to manipulate theories and the critical analysis approach but that's common to all master's degrees. But intellectual, no I don't think so.
