Having a birthday at school

My DS started reception this year and has his 5th birthday soon. How do you do the present giving?

Before school he was in nursery afternoons so we had the morning to open pressies and make a fuss.

Can I ask please what everyone does? Quick pressie opening before school? Wait until after school? Half and half?

We decorate the living room the night before when they're in bed. Put some of the gifts out ready to be opened before school. Special breakfast. Happy birthday play list playing. Cupcake in the lunch bag. And then the rest is after school. We usually send a bag if sweets in for the teacher to hand out to every child after school (genaltine free). But I'm not sure if they'll be allowing that now!

I forgot to say, we usually open the cards in the morning and I make sure there's one with a badge for them to wear to school!

We usually celebrate after school, or at the weekend (DH travels for work a lot, and DDs prefer to have their birthdays when he's home if possible, even if the dates don't match)

We did have cake and 1 present before school once, as DH was leaving that day. But it was a bit rushed.
