Do you need to ring the gp or 111 to go to a&e

Don’t personally need to go but like to know these things just in case as I have accidents prone relatives.

Erm if you think someone needs a and e you just go? You don’t need to book by phone. I don’t know if I’m misunderstanding the question....

It totally depends on the situation.

They are apparently bringing in a system from October whereby you have to phone 111 to get an appointment to go to a and e. The mind boggles how that will ever actually work.

I can picture it now “excuse me my appointment was 5 minutes ago but that man who isn’t breathing has been seen before me”

Sorry, I think I’ve misunderstood the question.

In some areas there’s a pilot trialling phoning 111 before going to a and e. If you’re not in one of those areas and you need to go to a and e, you just go.

I know they were planning on making appointments weren’t they.

It depends what the problem is!

Whenever I've needed a+e I call ahead while getting there as nearest is 20 miles away. If it's super serious it's an ambulance

If you turn up at A&E you should be seen, regardless of whether you've phoned 111.

111 is an appalling service and needs to be scrapped. I trust my own eyes, ears and my own judgement over someone on the other end of a phone with their yes/no questions and their stupid algorithm.

Ah ok I hadn’t read this. So for something serious you still go to a and e and I’m pretty sure you’d be prioritised accordingly.

For something like a suspected broken bone you call 111 for an appointment and may be seen quicker than if you turn up without one.

Some hospitals around here are doing appointments but I have no idea how you access them, 111 would be my guess. I assume for emergencies you still just turn up, or call an ambulance of course.

The problem with 111 is it’s almost impossible to diagnose medical issues over the phone, and they can’t risk , telling someone to stay at home and them getting worse/dying. So most the time they say go to a&e anyway.
