I like to think I am an OK person. I'm kind and thoughtful. I went shopping on Friday. I don't mind the shopping part but I do not like the checkout bit. I can fill a trolley no problem but I don't seem to be able to fit the bloody shopping in the trolley :(

Since lockdown ,shopping has become a bit easier. Less people in the supermarket and more care at the till.

Not on Friday.

I did my shopping. I got to the till. The lady in front of me was having an argument with the lad at the till. He had no clue what the limit was for swiping the card. He had to ask someone in the end.

Then it came to my turn. I had a very full trolley. Normally the cashier lets me load the gurney thing and then asks if they can start putting the items through. They also ask if I need help which i don't but it's nice to ask.

He started without asking, so I am unloading the trolley and he is scanning my shopping and not sending the shopping down and it is banking up.

Eventually I emptied my trolley and moved to the end of the till. I started packing and he was scanning away. i could not reach the items and had to ask him to push them down. He did it once and when it was full just sat there with his arms folded staring at me.

I had to move back to the till to send the items down so I could pack and then he scanned some more.
Wearing a mask did not help. I was sweating. I asked him again to push the items forward. He half heartedly did it once and folded his arms again.

When I finished packing he sat there looking at me. He did not tell me how much the bill was - I had to ask. They always tell me how much it is.

I got the message that he did not give a shit. i wondered if he had actually been shown how to do the job. Of course he had, he was a lazy little shit and I felt harassed.
By the time I moved away from the till I had almost lost the will to live.

I complained to a supervisor. i did not feel bad about it either. When I got to my car I was relieved to be out of the place.

Vote with your feet and shop elsewhere.

Whenever I find myself at a checkout with the cashier going ridiculously fast and showing no consideration, I slow down to a comfortable pace for myself and carry on.

You don’t have to allow theses situations to become stressful or sweat inducing, even if the cashier is being crap.
