Just discovered I only have 1 Palmaris longus muscle. Do you have 2?

How on earth have I got to my mid 30s and never noticed this before? I only know now because it was pointed out to me!

Put your thumb and little finger together and flex your wrist slightly towards you. See the long, hard thing sticking out from your wrist going down your arm? That's it! Some people don't have it at all and some seemingly only have 1. I just can't believe I've never noticed I only had 1 before now.

If you have no idea what I'm on about google it and you'll know from the pics. Quite a fascinating little muscle and what they can use it for if necessary during surgery on the rest of your body.

So basically I'm just more evolved than dh. I'm human and he's still pretty much ape with his 2 stupid muscles.

I still can't get over the fact one arm has it so obviously and the other doesn't and I didn't realise until now.

Definitely more evolved, although us two-tendoners are more cat like and as such would like to invoke our legal right to nap.

I have one in my left wrist, none in my right!

Gingernaut · 28/09/2020 22:21

I've got two, equal.

Weirdly, if you only have one, it tends to be the left arm, regardless of which hand is dominant.

None. Discovered at med school.

I tell DH (owner of 2) that I am more highly evolved than him.

Gancanny · 28/09/2020 22:28

I don't have any.

DipSwimSwoosh · 28/09/2020 22:31

I must be looking at the wrong thing as I have 4.

NameChange84 · 28/09/2020 22:34

@BrennieGirl

I don’t have any. I discovered this after injuring my hand a few years ago. The surgeon wanted to use the tendon to help repair my hand but couldn’t.

Apparently it’s a throwback to when we were all swinging in trees. So people without it are more evolved. That’s what I like to think anyway 🤪.

I don’t have it and was always ridiculed for not being able to do the monkey bars...even by one of my parents!

I feel slightly vindicated now.
HollowTalk · 28/09/2020 22:37

Can someone please take a picture of this? I've no idea what I'm meant to be looking at!

BreconBeBuggered · 28/09/2020 22:50

I can see mine, but they're feeble specimens. Monkey bar action has always been out of my grasp (pun intended).

HoldMyLobster · 28/09/2020 23:31

I have two in each arm.

I also had four wisdom teeth.

I am basically an ape, right?

newnameforthis123 · 28/09/2020 23:39

What looks like two in my left and none in my right - I love stuff like this! Mine are on my left side but I'm right handed.

DariaMorgendorffer · 28/09/2020 23:42

This is so interesting! I don't seem to have one in either arm Shock

theviewfromhalfwaydown · 29/09/2020 00:01

I have two on my left and none on my right.

PenguinsOnParade · 29/09/2020 00:11

DH and I were discussing it after Only Connect last week. He has them but I don't.

Very prominent ones actually weird me out a little which I know is totally irrational but I don't like prominent veins either. Blush

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/09/2020 00:17

I can't see them in either arm (they could be hiding in the fat Grin). Also never been able to do monkey bars.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I can bend my little finger independently of my ring finger, but only on my left hand.
Same here.

I also have really tiny thumbs. Brachio... something or other.

Sorry to spoil this theory, but I have one on the right, and nothing on the left, and I’m right handed. I used to be quite good on the monkey bars too. Grin

ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2020 00:30

I have two on each side! Never had any lower wisdom teeth, though.

ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2020 00:32

Oh, and I have a Darwin tubercle on the left ear. My sister and mum have it too, and my grandad had it both sides.

Runkle · 29/09/2020 00:34

One in left arm and I'm right handed.

Thesuzle · 29/09/2020 00:34

Yippeee this fact will blow my sons mind (he’s 27) and we have “what did you learn today”, sessions.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/09/2020 00:47

I've got 2 in both arms, but it's harder to see in the right, you really have to feel around for them.

PenguinsOnParade · 29/09/2020 01:17

I have a pointy bit on the outside of one ear, is that what this is? I've always called it my elf ear. Blush
ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 29/09/2020 01:37

@PenguinsOnParade @ChaToilLeam my son has pointy bits on both ears, although they are not even remotely symmetrical. We've always called them elf ears! The first thing I remember the midwife saying when he was born was "congratulations. Oh he has very big feet, and his ears are a funny shape" Angry

Soubriquet · 29/09/2020 02:05

I have two on each arm!
