How can I give away a bed in London?

I need to get rid of a double divan bed and mattress from a flat in Fulham. Good condition, only three years old but unwanted by the occupier. I've been let down by a charity who said they'd collect this morning and need it gone by Thursday.

I've tried the council (too long a wait), Freecycle (no internet), Facebook market place (no interest) and all local charities I can think of.

I hate the idea of it ending up in landfill as it has years of life left and am maddened by not being able to give it away!

Any bright ideas??

I was going to suggest Freecycle. Or maybe the Olio map

App not map!

I've heard The British Heart Foundation will take stuff.

Freecycle hasn't generated any interest in a week. Not tried Olio! British Heart Foundation will only take if its left on the pavement, which I can't do with a divan bed!

I don't think anyone would want a 3 year old used mattress would they? I'm sure if you pay the council collection fee they will recycle it if possible at the dump. Most councils don't just send stuff off to landfill now.

The council can't pick up for 2 weeks and I need to get rid of it sooner. Sadly my Plan A fell through this morning so I'm manically trying to find plan B!

Facebook marketplace?

Veryverycalmnow · 28/09/2020 13:31

Sorry, just re- read your post. I'm out of ideas

Try a house clearance company /man with a van. They will charge you but will usually be quicker than the council

Sell on Facebook for £5 or free

Also heck your council website to see if they are having a ‘skip day’ (mine are)

Is there a "my area" buy and sell Facebook group?
My double got snapped up on there earlier this year.

Delighted that via FB Marketplace it went to a young pregnant woman who was otherwise sleeping on her sofa and about to go in for a C section. Happy ending all round!
