What little things do you spend a lot of money on?

For me it is walking socks. We do a lot of walking/hiking and bad socks can cause all sorts of problems. So I spend silly money on decent socks - £25 a pair. But I think they are worth every penny. I've spent years testing out different brands and finally found my dream sock.

Molton brown hand wash. £20 each, though I do stock up when near an outlet! I just haven't found anything to rival it that lathers and smells as good. Also you only need a tiny bit so lasts longer than cheap hand wash.

Astella22 · 29/09/2020 07:50

What socks did u settle on OP?

violetbunny · 29/09/2020 07:56

Makeup. I spend an extortionate amount. I have a massive stash of beauty products (like a YouTube guru sort of level!). I love playing wth different products.

Top quality tea leaves - black, green and fruit varieties! It's my treat.
Bed linen, if you call that little.

Nottobesoldseparately · 29/09/2020 08:03

Eggs......only ever buy free range, but 'upgrade' to golden yolk ones.

Flip flops......no cheap ones for me, they all cost more than £20 a pair. Ipanema are my favourites. I love it when they have a sale!

BlindAssassin1 · 29/09/2020 09:01

Tin toms - the cheap ones are sharp tasting and watery.

Compost bags for the kitchen caddy - I could line the bin with newspaper and faff around with folding it all in nicely and scrubbing the bin daily. Or, spend cash on not doing those things.

Better quality dog food - he'd stink to high heaven if I didn't do this. DH won't let me upgrade to raw though!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/09/2020 09:03

Honey. I buy manuka and it's £13.99 a pot.

Astella22 - Falke socks. They offer a lot of support and don't have annoying lumps around the toes.

I've recently done a household budget. Both DH and I have vowed never to tell a soul how much we actually spend monthly on the scrounging freeloaders Confused

MrsMariaReynolds · 29/09/2020 09:44

Bags of crushed ice. I'm an ice addict. American

JuiceyBetty · 29/09/2020 09:47

It’s the dog for me. He eats better than us!

LongPauseNoAnswer · 29/09/2020 09:50

Toasted hazelnuts from the south of France. The bag is 150g and I pay €5.80 for them. I eat one with a square of dark chocolate it's divine.

I have 2 silk pillowcases and paid €125 each for them.

Bastard cat food that is €75 a bag for the little feckers. It's Orijen and super quality.

IntermittentParps · 29/09/2020 09:52

God, I thought La Chinata was the expensive stuff! I recently treated myself to some in hot, hot smoked and sweet, mainly for the pleasure of looking at them lined upon the spice shelf.

I buy Tony's chocolate quite a lot. Although it's expensive as an item IYSWIM, it's cheaper by weight than other similar 'slightly posh' chocolate.

I also insist on Dermalogica moisturiser, although otherwise my skincare is Boots/Superdrug own-brand.

I guess I spend a bit of a lot on takeaway coffee, £2.80 a time, although I only get one once or twice a week. I also buy it partly in trying to support nice local cafes who are struggling since Covid.

I tend to buy veg at my local rather expensive indie greengrocer even though I have to walk past a cheap-as-chips corner shop/grocer to do so. Again, partly because I think they deserve it as they stayed open over the whole of lockdown, did home deliveries too and generally worked their fingers to the bone, while staying cheery and helpful and lovely.

Audible books, It’s an addiction and I have to stop.

pollysproggle · 29/09/2020 09:56

Swimming goggles. 2 children that swim equals a lot of lost goggles but cheap ones are no good. £15 + a pair, it hurts when they get lost!

LockdownLemon · 29/09/2020 09:57

DustyMaiden - I misread your post as edible books! 😁

Butter. A raw, cultured one made by a local farm. I had it at a restaurant once and now I can’t eat anything else. £6 for 250g Shock

BadEyeBri · 29/09/2020 10:00

Shower gel. I am a sucker for Molton Brown

breadcakebiscuits · 29/09/2020 10:10

Yorkshire Gold tea. Although I’m not as bad as a friend who only drinks single estate Assamleaf tea from Fortnum’s.

Another vote for jam and marmalade. Bread too - I bake my own and good flour is pricey.

I’m very squeamish about pork ever since I read somewhere it was full of parasites and a major risk factor for bowel cancer, but I love it. I literally save up for a shop at an organic butcher.

DustyMaiden · 29/09/2020 10:15

@LockdownLemon
They are probably even more expensive.

Sheknowsaboutme · 29/09/2020 10:23

AriesTheRam · 29/09/2020 10:26
