Did anyone else have a rainy wedding day?

We're getting married on Wednesday and the weather is going to be horrific.

We'd planned for everything to be as outdoors as possible as it's a beautiful place, but I'm not getting my hair wet or ruining my shoes 😂

Got some big umbrellas and we'll look round the venue tomorrow, but I really wanted pictures by a nice lake and things like that.

Any tips on how to make the best of it and still get some nice pictures? Just the two of us so Jo guests to keep dry

Sorry no tips but it's supposed to be lucky if it rains on your wedding day
Many congratulations to you both for Wednesday

JorisBonson · 28/09/2020 11:13

It's my second time around so I could do with the luck @SmellsLikeFeet 😂

We did, big umbrellas, I wore wellies under my dress... We were lucky we got sown sunshine later, lots of pictures in sheltered bits...

Get some wellies. Wear your wedding shoes where you can, but I've seen some amazing photos with the bride wearing wellies and under a big umbrella for some amazing outdoor photos. Congratulations. 👰

Emmapeeler2 · 28/09/2020 11:18

I saw a wedding at Stourhead once, the weather was properly pelting rain, and the bride put on wellies and took a big umbrella for the lake photos. She looked wet but happy!

JorisBonson · 28/09/2020 11:19

Wellies! I wish I thought of that!

We leave tomorrow early so think it's a little late. Have to go to Lidl later so will see what the magical middle aisle holds.

No, I got sunburnt as it was a hot May day! But my sister had rain (February). I was also going to say about rain being lucky on your wedding day :)

Justmuddlingalong · 28/09/2020 11:20

Can you get Amazon to deliver to the venue?

SunbathingDragon · 28/09/2020 11:21

Have you hired a photographer? If so, get them to take some photos of the lake (at a dry moment if possible) and Photoshop you in.

Iamblossom · 28/09/2020 11:24

Yep pissed down. November. Didn't matter a jot to me. Romantic pictures of rain splattered vintage car windows with us inside, laughing under umbrellas etc. The clouds did part for long enough for us to get a couple of whole group shots on the patio steps however, but if that hadn't of happened I wouldn't have minded.

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/09/2020 11:26

My friends did. They embraced it with bright yellow wellies (for both) and massive umbrellas - their photos are fab :D

NoNameIdeas · 28/09/2020 11:28

Yes! We got married late March, the day before (when we were setting up!) was glorious sunshine! But, it really really didn't matter. There was enough dry moments that we got some lovely photos and managed to get everyone across the site in the dry, the poor guys doing the marquee got caught in an absolute downpour though! We also had some amazing photos taken at night in the rain which look like we are standing under a sky of falling stars, I love them!

Spindelina · 28/09/2020 11:29

My wedding day was fairly wet and very windy. One of my favourite photos is of people catching my veil as it blew off during a fairly formal group shot.

AnythingLegalConsidered · 28/09/2020 11:31

I’m sure that one of your friends or family will be able to go and get you some suitable wellies today or tomorrow morning. It’s one of the less frequently quoted Chief Bridesmaid duties. The nice thing about wellies is that you won’t need to try them on.

TiddyTid · 28/09/2020 11:31

Yes - January wedding. The pictures are fabulous because of it!

vickibee · 28/09/2020 11:32

yes in October, we had an old soft top RR ant the roof leaked so I had a big wet patch on the back of my gown ! It was also blowing a gale

Didn't really take anything away from the day, all the phots were taken indoors

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/09/2020 11:36

Yep, it was cold and rainy all day. It made the pics look great because the sky was moody. Also no squinting into the sun. We had brollies and I kept hold of the bottom of my dress. My shoes were cheapie ones from New Look which I ended up binning!

Truffle123 · 28/09/2020 11:38

It rained heavily on my wedding day last year! Proper black skies. Our photographer took all the family and friends shots under cover and for our couples portraits we braved the elements with a clear umbrella. She managed to find the light and the pictures looked beautiful. A couple of things I wish that I’d done differently though: I’m carrying the train of my dress in lots of the pictures as I didn’t want it to get soaked. Actually, would have been nicer to have the train out in all its glory for those priceless pictures and not worried about it being wet and a bit muddy later on! I also wish that I’d dropped the umbrella for a few more pictures - you can always touch up makeup and hair later if needed. My final tip - unrelated to the weather- give your makeup bag to your most trusted friend/bridesmaid. A well-meaning member of staff took mine off me when I went to have my photos done and I couldn’t find it all evening! It later turned up on one of the guest’s tables at the end of the night but obviously I’d not been able to touch up makeup etc. Congratulations and have a lovely day!

Tell the photographer so they can photo shop you in. Or photoshop lightening into your pics.

What time is the wedding? rain at nigh time can be a fabulous background, although you do need some form of light.

Photos taken outside of the bride and groom looking through a window can look good too - google some images.

Treat it as an opportunity to have some original photos. The same with wind, it will drive you mad if you are wearing a veil but will look great in the pictures.

Good luck and enjoy your day.

BigusBumus · 28/09/2020 11:41

I went to a rainy wedding and the bride and groom had big see-through umbrellas and had weaved battery fairy lights around the spokes underneath and I thought that was a great idea and would give extra light for the photos.

BashfulClam · 28/09/2020 11:42

I was lucky as it drizzled the day before and day after and I was praying we could go to the beach to be married (was in Scotland so chances of rain were high). We managed to get there and do it in the morning and at 5pm the heavens opened., we were alone in our cottage anyway as we eloped.

ChalkDinosaur · 28/09/2020 11:45

Yep, poured down all day! Did get some cool photos of me and my dad sprinting from car to venue Grin We didn't have many outdoor photos planned so it didn't really matter, but wellies and a big umbrella sound like a good plan!

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 28/09/2020 11:51

Yep, we got a special brolly in our wedding colours when we found a few days before that it was forecast to rain.

Then forgot to take it with us to the registry office Grin

Redcrayons · 28/09/2020 11:51

Yes, July though so it was fairly warm.
Fortunately it stopped raining for just long enough to do outside photos. The photographer managed to angle so you couldn’t see the black clouds in the sky.

Hope you get lucky.

Themarvellousmrsm · 28/09/2020 12:32

Yes, we married in the middle of July - beautifully sunny when we came out of the church but unexpectedly started to rain heavily en route to our reception-in an open topped vintage car!

The weather then stayed like it - cold, wet and foggy in the middle of July - in the south east Hmm

Anyway, it didn't spoil our day and we're still married 30 years later so maybe there is something to be said for luck

Hope you have the most wonderful day.
