How long would you last in prison?

Watching Wentworth Prison and bloody hell, it makes Orange Is The New Black look like Disney World Grin

Always knew I wouldn't last long looking at Orange, but in Wentworth I doubt I'd make it to episode two! I'd be such an easy target, ffs all they'd have to do is break my glasses and I couldn't even see 'em coming.

If you were in prison, do you think you'd make it to the end of your sentence without a gruesome ending?!

Obviously, I know tv dramas probably bear little resemblance to prison life but whatever about artistic license I still wouldn't fancy my chances. Actually, in real life prison I'd be toast anyway as a type 1 diabetic without access to proper medical care.

How would you fare?

Id be cowering in the corner of your cell with you OP, Class One wimp here, id only have to hear the big girls shouting and id be crying!

EhUp · 27/09/2020 20:20

I used to love watching Bad Girls!

Can't say I've ever considered how I would cope being incarcerated. Hopefully I'd survive by staying under the radar.

JustCallMeGriffin · 27/09/2020 20:25

I'm an idiot with no fear when threatened so would probably be OK...but extend my sentence for retaliation!

dudsville · 27/09/2020 20:28

I think the stress would break me. I'm introverted and simply would break from all the togetherness. I think I'm law abiding mostly so that I don't have to live that way.

Plussizejumpsuit · 27/09/2020 20:33

I'm claustrophobic so the idea of being locked in a cell or hanfcuffs even makes me feel panicky. So if be a mess. I can't imagine I'd last long at all or I'd just need to be on something to kno8me out or make me a bit of a zombie like lots of vallium. Which I'm not sure if get in prison. It must be so hard. Most women who are in prison are victims of violence, neglect as children or sexual abuse.

TheQueef · 27/09/2020 20:35

5 minutes.
I'm too good looking.
My Nan told me.

LindaFromMCC · 27/09/2020 20:37

For some reason, I've given this some thought before. I think what I'd have to do is find someone big and strong who would look after me Blush
I'd really struggle with the cleanliness and crap food.
I used to drive past a prison on the way to work, and every morning I'd just think thank god I'm not in there. Must be bloody awful.

CupoTeap · 27/09/2020 20:37

Not very long at all

namechangedjustforthis10 · 27/09/2020 20:47

Not a clue, I always thought how well you got on inside depends on what crime you'd committed? Aren't some more higher ranking of respect than others? Or have I been watching too much trashy TV Grin

SadWife2020 · 27/09/2020 20:55

Can’t imagine I would be at all popular or tough but I am a lawyer so would try to leverage that for my safety!

JoJoSM2 · 27/09/2020 21:25

I think it’d be the fact of being locked away in a confined space that could be the end of me and not the other inmates (I’m a 6ft woman).

positivelynegative · 27/09/2020 21:29

I like to think I’d be ok, but I always see the good in people.... so no doubt I’d be fucked over in fairly short order Blush

BogRollBOGOF · 27/09/2020 21:34

Not long.
I hated hearing the firedoors constantly slamming in halls. Not a great start. Need lots of outdoors and greenery, quiet, space and get overwhelmed with echo.

I'm also small and look like an easy target. I'm sharp witted though and would either get myself slapped hard at the very least or be miserably cowed into silence.

xxxviii · 27/09/2020 21:41

I can be a grumpy watchful sod and not afraid to get into a scrap, so probably ok. Mental health more of a risk than physical.

Katieweasel · 27/09/2020 21:43

We once had this discussion at work. My colleagues decided amongst them that I would be running the place within a week. I still have no idea whether to take that as a compliment or not Confused

Nomnomarrgh · 28/09/2020 01:03

I’d be okay. Mind you, former lags that I used to know said women’s prisons are a lot worse than men’s, so apart from thought crimes, I tend to keep my nose clean.

Susannahmoody · 28/09/2020 02:46

I think I'd just pretend to be a lesbian and make the best of things

Moomshinemisses · 28/09/2020 02:56

About 15yrs so far (staff not inmate)

caughtalightsneeze · 28/09/2020 03:03

I think I'd last about five minutes. I wouldn't know what to say or do if someone tried to pick a fight with me and I'm middle aged with various joint problems so I couldn't even hope to win in a scrap. Plus I'm terrified of being locked in anywhere so I'd be hyperventilating as soon as they locked the door. I can fully understand why prisoners are at such high risk of self harm and suicide.

eausolovely · 28/09/2020 03:06

Haha being wrongly convicted of a crime is my biggest fear in life, I wouldn’t last 10 minutes in prison!! My dear friend is a prison guard and she is hard as nails but I am such a soft shite I would be so easy to mess with! 😂😂

NoViolins · 28/09/2020 03:19

I'd last as long as my sentence, I guess. I think the boredom would be the worst part.

lovelemoncurd · 28/09/2020 03:48

I'm pretty resilient to stress so think I would be okay from that point of view. However if I or someone else broke my glasses then that would really disable me. Probably wouldn't sleep well either so that would turn me into a number 1 grumpy arsehole- actually I'd probably be ok!

mylittleyumyum · 28/09/2020 15:03

I'd be a jittering wreck. I need earplugs to sleep in my own, quiet house. I'd probably die through lack of sleep...

Unevenbeard · 28/09/2020 15:11

I'm a probation officer so probably wouldn't last long in there. Has anyone seen 60 days in on Netflix? , they plant 8 civilians into a county jail in America. Well worth a watch!

MuchTooTired · 28/09/2020 15:39

I doubt I’d last very long. I’m the third F type on fight or flight and just freeze and I hate confrontation. So, unless the lead prisoner took me under her wing with pity I’d be bullied horribly.
