What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Seb makes me think of sebum.

dottiedaisee · 06/04/2021 14:45

Any name that is not spelt correctly ...why would you do that ?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/04/2021 15:20

I suppose it depends how ‘wrong’ the name is. My sisters name is ‘correct’ on her birth certificate but as a teenager she found a very ye olde version of it and changed it to that (so I find it hard to spell it ‘correctly). Or so she told me (it was before o was born!).

Lol Dylan another name I irrationally hate!
Very popular amongst the Welsh.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/04/2021 16:19

I was just thinking how much I hate the name Timothy. It just sounds feeble.

Noideawhatnametotype · 06/04/2021 16:31

Dylan is another one for me

Ha and my cat is featured on this list regularly! And my name- apparently there’s never been a nice person named my name haha
Cissyandflora · 06/04/2021 16:39

I have to say I’ve absolutely let rip on this thread and it’s been the most cathartic and enjoyable thread I’ve ever been on! I’m sorry that some people have thought it’s unkind- but I honestly am not offended by appearing on the list and I think it’s hilarious when there’s a hat trick it’s brilliant

Listener2021 · 06/04/2021 16:41

Emma.

Such a gummy, munching sound.

LookAChicken · 06/04/2021 16:57

Indigo - new age verging on the David Iyke.

ameliajanes · 06/04/2021 17:09

Emily.

KurtWilde · 06/04/2021 17:16

Jodie. Cannot stand that name.

JustYourAverageSue · 06/04/2021 17:23

Nathaniel.

I know it's a biblical name, but it just seems like someone couldn't decide between Nathan and Daniel.

Amdone123 · 06/04/2021 17:25

Kai, Kayden, Jayden, Jaxson , Riley, Kyle.
Ophelia, Tegan, Nevaeh, Lily, Macey.

I've always disliked surname types - Harrison, Taylor, Jackson, Gregson.

I met a Riva. Her parents said River. To me, it was Ree - va...??!
Also, someone with a John and a Jack. Same name, no ?

therocinante · 06/04/2021 17:33

Anything hyphenated (I have a very young cousin called Gracie-Mae 🤮), anything American sounding (Hunter, Nate), anything too posh/frilly (Ottilie, Vivienne, Arabella).

Also: Caroline, Lauren, Chloe, Rebecca, Debbie, Cath. For no reason, just don't like them.

I like shortish, 'boring' girl's names (Harriet, Alice, Beth) which I'm sure are all on this list somewhere and I hate the sound of nearly all boy's names so it's a good job I'm never having children haha.

therocinante · 06/04/2021 17:37

I've just scrolled back and I'm delighted to say me, my DH, my parents, and my cats are all here haha - my sister is the only one who's escaped it but she has quite an unusual name which some people definitely wouldn't like anyway 😂

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 06/04/2021 17:56

Annabelle is twee as all fuck. I LOVE Arabella though.
I hate the way Molly looks written down, like I’m having a stroke or something. Sounds dreadful out loud too.
Melanie - I’ve never met one who wasn’t a twat.
Gracie - especially when hyphenated with ‘May’ or something equally overdone. No thanks.

WindyPudding · 06/04/2021 19:34

OK here's a totally irrational one - Anne (or Ann) - I really hate it but don't know why. For me it summons up a very uptight, disapproving woman in horrible shoes, yet I've never known an Ann like that. However Annie is totally different, she sounds like a barrel of laughs who would be great at swearing.

mbosnz · 06/04/2021 20:15

Nope, my kids still aren't here, lol.

Kai, always makes me giggle. Kai means food in Maori.

Cissyandflora · 06/04/2021 22:46

The first Kai I met was a New Zealander!

Bram. That’s another I don’t like at all. Try hard but unpleasant sounding.

Ann is exactly as you describe. An uptight neighbour.
