What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

I don't like Denise either. My parents thought of calling me that and I'm glad they didn't. However it is OK for the French, said with a French accent.

I can't say I actively hate any name but am not keen on Samantha.

Didiplanthis · 04/04/2021 16:29

I'm not keen on one of my DCs names 😳. I'm not quite sure what I was thinking at the time 😂. I liked it till he was 2 then really didn't till he was 5 and deeply regretted it and have now got over myself as it is a perfectly normal name and suits him just fine !

LizBennet · 04/04/2021 16:32

Claire. Due to hatred of one woman named it from years ago.

AdelaideK · 04/04/2021 16:35

Gracie not Grave

youdontnome · 04/04/2021 16:37

Rachel, absolutely loath it, sounds like someone clearing their throat.

lightlypoached · 04/04/2021 16:44

Well, all of my family's names are on here Grin, including mine and my sister's

For me

Anything that's spelled stupidly.

Cristal for a girl.
Arabella. Or Bella
Timmy. Sounds like it came from an Enid Blyton book
River for a boy.
Cove. Yep. I know, who calls their kid Cove ?
And fucking Boris, for obvious reasons Smile

ImAlrightThanx · 04/04/2021 17:00

Horatio (I heard a woman calling after her son who was named this- instant dislike)
Julia
Sebastian
Penelope
Evie
Vanessa
Oscar

No offence to anyone who has a dc with these names!

Diversion · 04/04/2021 17:01

Got to page 9 and havent seen it yet - Neveah (heaven spelt backwards). It made me want to vomit the first time I heard it and still does.

Flamingnorahs · 04/04/2021 17:02

Veronica. Never met one I have liked and I've known a surprising number of them!

Izitso · 04/04/2021 17:04

Hello V

KateF · 04/04/2021 17:18

I'm not overly fussy about names but have a completely irrational dislike of Ralph, Alfie, Faye and Harper.

NotATomato · 04/04/2021 17:48

Nevaeh is terrible, I judge anyone who chooses it.

Anything that is hyphenated with the current trend of Rose/MayGrace. So dull and overused.

Evelyn. I don’t get the appeal of it.
Nancy
April
Hazel
Ella

Old lady names such as Ethel, Maude, Iris. Sometimes it’s like people trying to be on trend for the sake of it.

Cutesy names such as Maisie or Betsy, I can’t imagine adults with them.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 04/04/2021 18:07

Taylor
Jaden
Eva
Jude
Margaret-never met a nice one
Mollie
Molly
Darcy
Harley
Sarah
Emma- never met a nice one
Josh
Phoenix

DrCoconut · 04/04/2021 18:12

@Frunkle I can't hear the name Nigel without thinking of the crazy frog 🤢 I've seen my boys' names mentioned on here though and they're not twee or middle class.

RuthW · 04/04/2021 18:21

Jessica.

Hate it for no good reason.

Botanica · 04/04/2021 18:28

Atticus.

Fairyfalls · 04/04/2021 18:34

Ryan

RandomUsernameHere · 04/04/2021 18:36

Anything double barrelled

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/04/2021 18:37

Wayne/Dwayne. It just makes me picture really chavvy types in tracksuits drinking cans of Stella.

Tracey for a woman.

Gormless · 04/04/2021 18:39

Emily. Not yet met one who has been anything other than extremely wet and whiny. Sorry to all normal Emilys!

firstimemamma · 04/04/2021 18:45

Eulalie (I hadn't heard of it until today!) and many other 'out there' names that saddle a child for life with questions like 'what? How do you spell / pronounce it?' and funny looks.

Paige

Teddy or any animal names e.g Fox

River

Reyn

Hovverry · 04/04/2021 18:45

Irish names where you cannot even guess the spelling or pronunciation.
New spellings of old names.
Surnames used as given names, especially for girls, like Harper, Paige, Mercedes. Would you call your baby Smith or Butcher or Sidebottom?

Strangekindofwoman · 04/04/2021 18:48

Olivia
Maud
Ethel
Elsie
Winifred
George
William
James
Stanley
Rupert
Freddie

NotATomato · 04/04/2021 18:50

Last names as first names, especially for girls like Kennedy, MacKenzie. So ugly sounding.

Mercedes.
