What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Samantha, Amanda, Manuella (In fact all girls names with 'man' in them)
Amy, Michelle (every single one I've met has been a shit-stirrer)
Max, Jaxon, Hunter, Jayden, Cayden, etc (why is it always a Hunter at nursery hitting other kids?)

Constance11 · 03/04/2021 11:56

Any of those names that sounds like a name of a a Victorian scullery maid - Esme, Effie, Millle etc

NoseOfJericho · 03/04/2021 12:01

Jayden. It's not a proper name to me. Jay/Jai is a name although I hate Jay, which is a bird. So why add 'den' what about the other half of it - Dennis.

Jayden is just stupid.

Chardonnay. 'Bleedin' Chardonnay, it ain't a name, it's bleedin' wine innit.

MargaretThursday · 03/04/2021 12:15

Surnames as first names-especially for girls. Bailey, Taylor etc
Place names. Preston especially dreadful.

HalfBrick · 03/04/2021 12:21

Saul
Hate the sound and the fact it looks like a typo. I'm fine with Paul though.

Ruben
No idea why it bugs me. It also makes me think of a delicious sandwich I once had in the USA.

stillcrazyafterall · 03/04/2021 12:29

James
Thomas
David
(Boooorrrring, couldn't you think of ANYTHING better?)
Tim/othy- twee! Doesn't suit a grown man in any way.
Julie - bitch at school.

My son's name has appeared on here though, so what do I know? Grin

Thefaceofboe · 03/04/2021 12:38

Is Neveah pronounced 'Never', 'Neeveh' 'Neve' or 'Neevie'? confused

Nee-Vay-Ah I think.

LovelaceBiggWither · 03/04/2021 12:43

Neveah is Nee Vay Ah. Goes nicely with Harmony.

PP who said Ria and Rhea are pronounced like Rear? The women I've known with those names pronounced them Ree A.

Jayden, Brayden, Braxton are ones I dislike.

Bluetrews25 · 03/04/2021 13:11

Thank you TheFace and Lovelace.
Hadn't even thought of that, and had not come across it before. Thought it was just a yoonique spelling of Niamh.

Thefaceofboe · 03/04/2021 13:19

@Bluetrews25 no but it is heaven spelt backwards Wink

RosesAndHellebores · 03/04/2021 13:26

Just the ones I personally dislike but I don't think it's nice to list them forfend I offend someone on thread by being rude about their name over which they had no choice and may be tired of unkind digs about it.

VienneseWhirligig · 03/04/2021 13:27

Verity - never met a nice or truthful one
Arlo - no idea why, just can't abide it
Renesmee - just no. Although the one I know isn't even spelled like that, it's Renezmae which is worse!

CheerfulBunny · 03/04/2021 13:27

Maxine - makes me think of big thighs, same with Charmaine. I think they were older girl bullies at school when I was little so that probably where I'm getting it from.

Biggles001 · 03/04/2021 13:33

Names that end in "eeee".... amy, Emily, charlie etc.

Bluetrews25 · 03/04/2021 13:36

Ohhh. I feel a bit sick now, TheFace
Heaven backwards?
Bleurghh.

Heard of a friend of a friend who called his DD Lanesra.
Took his wife a few years to find out it was Arsenal backwards, cos he was a big fan, innit. She was not happy.

CaMePlaitPas · 03/04/2021 13:52

drumandthebass · 03/04/2021 13:52

Any doubled barrelled first name, particularly something joined with May/Mae or Kai

catmumandhumanmum · 03/04/2021 14:16

I don't hate but don't like that much -
Alison
Tracey
Nat short for Natasha
Sam short for Samantha
Sue
Andrew
David
Charles or Charley
Nigel
Paul

I don't particularly like my first name either but live with it

Couchbettato · 03/04/2021 14:52

Jaden, Kaden, Brayden and basically any that end in aden.

Once heard a woman in IKEA call her 3 kids by name, all Jaden, Kaden and Brayden. It makes my piss itch.

Eminybob · 03/04/2021 16:33

@Bluetrews25

Old git here. Is Neveah pronounced 'Never', 'Neeveh' 'Neve' or 'Neevie'? Confused (I would spell Niamh as Niamh)
