Dc will be 4 for all of his first year of reception as he doesn’t then 5 until end of June

Can I take him out of school during reception before he’s 5 or is it a no for any child in reception year even if they are still 4?

Technically they don,t legally need to be in education to they are 5 but if they have already started attending then you have already agreed to the school rules?? I would def ask the school as when it comes to fies they don,t all act the same way.

Also depends on what you mean by 'can I take him out of school'?

Do you mean 'can I take him out without it being marked as unauthorised?'

Or 'can I take him out without being fined?'

Or 'can I take him out without it having a big impact on education or tests?'

You could take him out without being fined until he’s 5, but really why would you?

It may be a lot of play in reception but they learn a lot too

I don’t think a week makes much of a difference to someone’s learning when they are in secondary school. A 4 year old really won’t miss anything important

It was more if I we wouldn’t be fined.

I take my children out most years for a week for holidays. Its really not the end of the world, and they don't fall behind. We are in Scotland though and they don't fine, or bat an eye. Infact I don't even give them a reason most of the time.

Soubriquet · 27/09/2020 11:08

Week off for something like a holiday, no problem. Even 2 weeks maybe for a decent holiday

You just made it sound like it was days off every week

If his birthday isn't until June, you can legally take him out of school until the term after he turns 5. So the September he goes into year 1 :)

@TeenPlusTwenties can I take him out without it having a big impact on education or tests?
Yes I am sure the op’s child’s GCSE results will suffer. Hmm

TeenPlusTwenties · 27/09/2020 11:33

Aldi Of course taking out in Reception isn't going to impact GCSEs. I was just clarifying/widening the question a bit!

Rebelwithallthecause · 27/09/2020 11:39

Thanks everyone for confirming

This helps a lot
