Sharing toothbrush - is this weird??

OK, it's actually an electric toothbrush with different heads (we've moved to a another country for a few months and one got left behind accidentally). My dp maintains that the little coloured bands at the bottom of the brush distinguish one person's brush head from another, and that it's normal to share the electric handle, making sure your own head is on...

Is this normal?? Do families share electric toothbrushes like that? I am certainly not familiar with the custom 🙈

Yes! That's completely normal. That's why there are the different colours and space for more than one toothbrush in the case!

Mind boggled

We have one each so have 4 stems in the house. The coloured rings let us know who each one belongs to. Plus 2 are in the ensuite and 2 in the bathroom

Totally normal

Normal

fitzbilly · 27/09/2020 14:38

Yes of course. Why do you need separate handles for each family member? That would be a waste!

I have one in the main bathroom and each of my children have a different coloured head, and one in my en suite that dh and I use with our own heads.

Apart from anything else it would be too much clutter for me!

iklboo · 27/09/2020 14:39

Definitely normal. The only bit that goes in your mouth is the head, surely?

Marisishidinginmyattic · 27/09/2020 14:39

I’ll offer another point of view and say no it’s not normal 😂 I think there’s some things in life we can stretch to having as our own personal item and one of those is the bottom of the toothbrush!

CakeGirl2020 · 27/09/2020 14:40

With an electric one I think many people just have separate heads. We’ve got a pink band for my head and a green band for DH head

LizB62A · 27/09/2020 14:42

We have our own electric toothbrushes so that we don't have to remember which colour head we're using !!
Plus, when mine runs out of charge I can temporarily swap my toothbrush head to the other one while mine is charging (and vice versa obvs)

safariboot · 27/09/2020 14:48

DP is right, the toothbrushes are designed for that. Mine came with a little holder for four brushheads and the charger.

That said, nothing wrong in preferring to have a handle each if you can spare the money. But considering you can spend a few hundred quid on a whiz-bang smartphone-connected toothbrush nowadays, wanting to share it makes sense.

Chloemol · 27/09/2020 15:08

It’s normal

This. It’s absolutely not normal and really quite gross.
Oldraver · 27/09/2020 15:17

Like others have said it's what the little coloured rings and the holder with four spaces were meant for, nothing gross about it

FourEyesGood · 27/09/2020 15:18

Totally normal! I can’t believe anyone would think there was anything weird about sharing the motor part. It doesn’t go in your mouth!

Lemonsyellow · 27/09/2020 15:24

Not normal. Yes, I suppose they can be used like that, swapping the heads around, but it would be such a faff. OK for holidays to ease up on packing. I’ve never known anyone swap the heads over. We have one each - and have never considered just getting one stem.

Do you have hermetically sealed personal cutlery as well? Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 27/09/2020 15:42

Gross.

Also impractical as we get ready in different bathrooms / DH uses the gym near work each morning and so brushes his teeth then / I like to have my electric one for weekends away etc

But I may also think this is gross cos I’ve seen other people’s electric toothbrushes and they’re almost always clogged up with old toothpaste and the heads are chewed and discoloured

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/09/2020 15:42

Of course it's normal- that's why it comes with different heads and coloured rings.

Enchantmentz · 27/09/2020 15:44

I think it is normal, that being said me and dc have separate electric brushes due to neither of us being trusted to remember switching heads before shoving it in out mouths. I doubt I would share with a competent adult either.

Shmithecat2 · 27/09/2020 15:46

I know that's what the coloured bands are for and your dp is technically right but I won't share an electric toothbrush with my DH, we have a whole one each. He NEVER rinses the handle properly or cleans the charging station. Envy - not envy...

Bravefarts · 27/09/2020 15:48

Totally normal. Where would you line up all the chargers in a large family?!

dementedpixie · 27/09/2020 15:51

Nope, not normal in our house. We have 1 each. Kid's ones are in the bathroom. Mine and dhs are in the ensuite

Ontheboardwalk · 27/09/2020 15:57

What happens if one of you go always without the other? Do you have to flip a coin to see who gets the bottom half of the toothbrush?

What happens if you split and there has to be a custody battle for the bottom half?

All sound a bit grim and unnecessary to me. I suggest keeping an eye out for a bargain for another one on Amazon

Thatbliddywoman · 27/09/2020 16:03

I wouldn't do this. I have two to myself! One on charge one in use!
