Wonderful things you/someone else has done for love? Please thaw my frozen heart

Feeling very down about love and relationships and men!

I’d love to hear of nice things that you have done for love, or someone has done for you, or you’ve heard of happening to someone else sometime in your life.... things to remind me that love does exist... not things like ‘they make a cup of tea’ that are pretty standard, but things that show patience, intimacy and deep love beyond the everyday incidentals.

As for me...I don’t have anything significant I don’t think... but once at 17 my boyfriend at the time drove a 5 hour round trip to see me for an hour when I wasn’t well. It makes me feel tired just thinking about it!

When our DD was about 6 months, and a non-sleeping screaming nightmare, my DH quietly arranged for all my pre-kid friends to be in our local one Saturday afternoon. He then took me there, on the pretence of getting some lunch, surprised me with all my friends, left his card behind the bar, and left with our DD, so that I could spend time with my friends.

About a year after that, we woke up one morning, and he announced that today was "More Than A Mother's Day", and sent me off to a pre-booked spa day, and to a nice restaurant afterwards.

And when we had our DS, and I was on my knees with exhaustion, he came home from work one day, and handed me a bottle of wine and check in details for a luxury local hotel. Told me I had the night to myself there, to drink the wine, order whatever I wanted from room service, and sleep for as long as I can, and enjoy breakfast delivered to my room and a late check out the next morning, whilst he took after the kids.

He's a diamond. I'm so glad I married him.

Does it have to be romantic love?

If not, there’s the time my mum came to rescue me from Sheffield station late at night. I was 18, had been to visit my friend at university on the other side of the Pennines and missed my connecting train. There was one last train to my home town in an hours time, so I called my parents from the pay phone to let them know I’d be late, and sat down on the freezing, deserted concourse with my book to wait. 40 minutes passed without seeing another soul, then I heard footsteps, looked up, and saw my mum who’d driven 50 miles to come and get me. It was a lovely reminder that even though I was technically an adult she was still looking out for me.
