Partner and I both work in emergency services. I'm on about £32k, he's £40k ish. We always thought that we didn't earn too bad, however Mumsnet always makes me feel like we're terribly paid! So many people commenting they're on £60k+. Is that just a small % in f the population, and a lot of them just happen to be on mumsnet? Or does the general public actually get paid a lot more than us? Not that u can do much about it, just more wondering I suppose

Also...your jobs are very secure so there is a lot to be said for that, especially at the moment!

Definitely agree with this. Whilst I've got a good salary, car and private healthcare etc. all of that can be gone in one phone call, as 6 people in our business unit found out last month. Told on the Tuesday their jobs were being made redundant, left the business on the Friday. Yes they got a payout, but cars, healthcare and salary gone within a week.

There is an awful lot to be said for job security but a lower salary.

I work part time and full time would be £36k so about £20k. My dh earns £28k. So our combined income is a lot less than many. Both my sisters earn more on their own.
But I have a 4 bed house with large garden, 3 kids, and great quality of life. We both walk to work, I get 2 days off a week, we both enjoy our jobs.
So I don't care.

We are the same joint salary as OP when I’m
Not on mat leave
We live in south east just on outskirts of m25 in expensive commuter town

It’s still considered a good salary for here. Many earn less and some earn much more

We don’t overstretch ourselves so it feels a lot as there’s plenty left over to save

Right now our salary is lower as I’m on mat leave so joint income for this year will be £48k rather than £75k

It’s a big drop but manageable thanks to savings and with the lockdown we aren’t spending as much anyway
