Hive Heating

Does anybody have Hive heating? Do you like it? Would you recommend? How did you get it installed?

Thinking of getting it but wanted some 'real life' experiences first please!

I’ve got it. Bought it from Amazon- reduced in the Black Friday sale. The price included fitting from British Gas. I love it! Can switch the heating on remotely if so it’s warm when you get in etc. Easy to control with the app.

YorkieTheRabbit · 26/09/2020 18:31

Yes we’ve got it, British Gas fitted it. It’s really good, we have lights on hive too, they can be set to come on a different times and be controlled by the app too, very user friendly —idiot proof—Smile

YorkieTheRabbit · 26/09/2020 18:32

Strike out fail, not idiot proof 🤣

TPS2009 · 26/09/2020 18:34

Absolutely love it, it was left in the house we bought. We’ve linked it to the iPhones and my Alexa.

Freddiefox · 26/09/2020 18:55

If your WiFi break can you still use it manually?

Someonesayroadtrip · 26/09/2020 19:01

Have one, husband works for them so we have all their products. I like it, easy to boost the if I want. To be fair we usually keep it fairly constant and lower at night, so don't really do much with it but sometimes when I'm out and got soaked through it's nice to be able to boost the heating for when I get in.

Bwlch · 26/09/2020 19:04

We have Hive. My husband fitted it. Love it.

Yes.

Can I ask how reduced it was? Have been looking to order but might be worth waiting if there's a chance of a decent discount

We inherited ours when we bought our house, and absolutely loathe it. We can't use the app , and the thermostat requires 4 new batteries every 3 weeks or so plus disconnects regularly

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/09/2020 19:51

We have nest which is similar. It's hard wired in so no batteries. It knows when you are out so doesn't heat the home unnecessarily. It's handy to turn it on before getting home and you can see your usage hour by hour on the app.

Sexnotgender · 26/09/2020 19:52

We got it recently. Liking it so far!

MadauntofA · 26/09/2020 19:53

I love ours - can control from your phone, and really love the hive plug we bought - can lie in bed and check that I remembered to switch off, or put on a timer

The batteries in our thermostat last two years. The app works fine, as does the web browser control. I think it has disconnected three times in five years.

That doesn’t sound right.

We have had ours two years now and never had to change the battery’s. If it’s disconnecting that can be something to do with the distance between the boxes we got a booster as there was a lot of walls in the way.

Love ours it was free with a tariff we where on. Also have smart bulbs all linked up with Alexa.

sohypnotic · 26/09/2020 20:23

Couldn't go back to not having it, love it and defo worth the money

goalpostmover · 26/09/2020 20:26

Had both hive and nest, prefer nest personally.

iamme21 · 26/09/2020 20:26

It was a couple of years ago but I think I got it for about £160

TokyoSushi · 26/09/2020 20:30

Sounds like it might be a winner! Thanks!

Android app works fine for scheduling, etc. here. Batteries seemed to last forever with us - think have only replaced twice since installation in late 2018? Website app is also good; prefer it to smartphone. Customer service only so-so - sending junk emails out without option to unsubscribe pretty unforgivable in 2020, for example - but have only needed to contact them couple of times. Hive Thermostat nicely designed, quite heavy & solid. Has been reliable. Overall very satisfied.

FinallyHere · 26/09/2020 20:32

Another big fan here.

DH only really uses the manual thermostat

Batteries last easily for two years

FreiasBathtub · 26/09/2020 20:35

Ha! @gurgleberry was coming on to say the same as you! We can't log into the wireless receiver, the account is apparently irretrievably linked to the old owner and the only option is to fork out for a new one. We also can't get it to turn on the immersion heater, and currently the thermostat thinks it's 2am on a Monday in February and nothing I do can persuade it otherwise. Not loving it at all at the moment. But it would probably be a lot better if you installed it from scratch rather than inheriting it.

LittleEsme · 26/09/2020 20:46

I may sound utterly dense here, but what if we're not on mains gas?!

LPG or oil is our option.

FinallyHere · 26/09/2020 20:49

@FreiasBathtub

Are you in touch with the previous owners? Might they give you the password? Or update the account with your email address ?

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 26/09/2020 20:51

I have it. I waited for a Black Friday deal that included British Gas fitting.

I love the accessibility of it, I can control it when I’m on my way home or if it’s too chilly to get up etc.

I also think I’ve saved on costs as I’m able to fine tune schedules more effectively.
