Retraining to teach but can't get work experience during Covid

I have wanted to do my PGCE for a while now. However I cant get any work experience or volunteer in a class as no school wants a extra body in classes, not even private schools.

I wanted to do my PGCE in September 2021 but I'm reluctant now because even though I have worked in a school before, it's been over 15 years ago. How do I know I would be a good fit now?

Also what kind of experience would I get on a PGCE right now? How can they work?

I think next year for a PGCE is not going to be possible is it? Even my son isnt allowed into college right now. He can only go in alternate weeks

Teacher training is still going on this year, I don't know why it wouldn't next year. Experience of working in a school, even if it was 15 years ago, puts you ahead of the other people applying who don't have any experience at all.

A PGCE student started her first placement at my school this week, and we are welcoming in parent/ local volunteers as normal - just got some covid paperwork to sign and expectations to follow the social distancing rules. Keep ringing round your local schools, you may find one who is willing for volunteers. But as a PP said, you don't need school experience to to teacher training. Don't let it hold you back

We've got a SCITT student in and their training is no different than normal. We've also got visitors in - the only difference is that they have to wear a mask. Keep asking schools (try further afield).
