Freezing

I'm currently sat upstairs absolutely freezing, with two hats on. Downstairs is the same. Heating will come on later, but we cannot afford to heat the house all the waking hours. Can anyone else relate?

Yep. I sit watching tv with a blanket on my knees.

Matalan has fingerless gloves 2 pairs £2. I just bought some ready for working from home all winter.... also recommend wilko hot wheat packs - bargain at £4 and 2 minutes in the microwave you can work with it on your lap to warm things up a bit.

We live in the south of France. It was 30 degrees a couple of days ago, but today it is 9!!! Had to dig out a jumper and some socks and we may think about lighting the fire tonight

Could you afford to get a halogen heater? Very cheap to run and heat up a room very quickly and effectively. I first discovered when dd and I were living in a flat with bloody useless and expensive storage heaters! I'm debating getting another as it's only me here now so makes more sense to just heat one room at least until it's really cold.

I'm just not sure if not using the central heating at all would cause problems to my system?

@Graphista - I might give that a go if this is to be a really cold winter. We do heat the house for the latter part of the day (if necessary) but heating the house all day is not sustainable.

@anuffername - Brrr! Must be a lot worse when you're not so used to the cold.

Hot water bottle and fleece blanket. I live in an old COLD house, these make all the difference.

Oil filled radiators are cheap to run and can heat up a room quite quickly.

@ImFree2doasiwant - our house is relatively modern, but still noticably colder than our previous house. I will need these ready for DD soon.
