DS finding school very noisy

Is there anything I can do to help? He has had his eyes tested as both DH and I are shortsighted, but has still been complaining of a sore head. He’s also got much louder himself so if the whole class are speaking at his new volume it must be some racket!

His school have started play based learning in P1 so I do understand it comes with a wee bit of noise and I don’t want to be That Parent if it’s still just him settling in.

Has your child's behaviour changed as a result, in or out of school as well?
Maybe ask the school/teacher about whether there are any ear defenders he can use in class to flatten the noise. (Like these www.tts-group.co.uk/tts-ear-defenders/1015588.html)

DS complains about this and at parents info evening every other parent said their child had complained too. Teacher doesn't want to do the only solution she can think of (all facing to blackboard) as it's against the teaching ethos of the school Hmm It's because they have such a large class.... kids are allowed to work in the corridor although she readily admits it's not always quieter there or take war defenders.

In a room of 30 children play it will be much louder than he is used to at home.

Additionally if he wasn't at nursery/pre-school prior to starting school due to lockdown he will have got used to a very quiet life.

Is he drinking enough during the day? (headaches)

Have a word with the teacher to let school know he is finding it loud, maybe they need to continue to work on 'indoor voices'.

Get his ears and hearing checked?
Hearing and ear problems can sometimes exacerbate unwanted noises and make it harder to self regulate.

My auditory processing never is great, but I'm finding that 6 quiet months around the house really hasn't done my tolerance to background noise any favours and my general sensory threshold is lower than normal.

Get his hearing checked. Ds had glue ear, and he struggled with lots of background noise.
