A truly special, wonderful, dreamy, luxurious box of chocolates?

I really like to buy a truly special, wonderful, dreamy, luxurious box of chocolates. But I'm not sure where to get it from. I'm originally not from the UK. Where I come from Godiva was quite popular as a luxury treat (when I was there so may not be the case any more...). Is it the same here? How about Hotel Chocolat? Are they any good? Any other recommendation?? Attractive looking would be nice, but it has to taste absolutely out of this world. Appreciate any input!

Oban chocolate company without a doubt - independent tiny cafe in a beautiful spot on the coast that's run by a trained chocolatier. Really special! I managed to get one of their Easter eggs during lockdown and hoping for some Xmas chocs from them after a LOT of hinting to DH

Those Highland Chocolatier chocs look good but weirdly seem to have a truckload of artificial colours on top, when the actual chocolates are free from artificial flavours. Why do that ?

L’Artisan du Chocolat. I have done significant testing...

monkeyonthetable · 25/09/2020 07:49

If you go for Highland Chocolatier, pick one of the selections with the orange and clove in it (goes really well with whisky.) It won a gold prize and is out of this world. Clove could be so overpowering but they get the blend exactly right.

I love these, is French but they do online.

I don't rate Hotel Chocolat- too sweet for me

tigerbear · 25/09/2020 08:46

Leonidas, but only the white ones with hazelnut ganache inside. They’re Belgian, but you can order them from Amazon

Chococo -from Swanage in Dorset send out amazing boxes!

SomethingOnce · 25/09/2020 08:50

Love Paul A. Young!

ElfDragon · 25/09/2020 08:55

Artisan du Chocolat are fabulous. Paul A Young also good.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/09/2020 08:56

In my head Paul A Young is the singer on a second career as an artisanal chocolatier. Please don't disabuse me of this fact. It's very pleasing to me. Wherever he lays his chocs, that's his home.

PegasusReturns · 25/09/2020 09:03

I like Leonidas and fortnums.

But I’m also partial to a bar of dairy milk

mrsriceball · 25/09/2020 09:07

Thank you for all the recommendations. Haven't checked all yet but Chococo looks lovely! Paul A Young seems nice too, but I couldn't see a box. I'm looking for a box of chocolates. I have a thing for opening a box of chocolates.

Lick The Spoon, from Wiltshire. Their chocolates are fabulous, and also ethically sourced. Their packaging is all recyclable, but still looks and feels luxurious.

I was eating their wonderful truffles last night, drinking brandy, and imagining that I lived in the world of Hercule Poirot.

Family favourite here for the past 50 years is Audrey's Chocolates.

Laderach are amazing, Swiss. Not cheap but the best chocolate I've ever tasted, and I've tried a ton of the connoisseur brands.

FelicityFisher · 25/09/2020 15:18

Prestat or Godiva fit the bill

I'm lolling at someone recommending Aldi Grin

WellTidy · 25/09/2020 15:21

Prestat ‘Jewel’ box. About £15, you get get them in Waitrose. Works out at about a pound a chocolate. They are divine and perfect, IMO.

Flyonawalk · 25/09/2020 15:23

Teuscher in Zurich do amazing champagne truffles and selection boxes which are very dreamy indeed. They deliver I think.

CottonSock · 25/09/2020 15:23

Following for Christmas. For myself, me and I.

Flyonawalk · 25/09/2020 15:23

...also I second Rococo, Maison du Chocolat and Paul A Young. William Curley do fun and inventive flavours.

mrsriceball · 25/09/2020 15:28

Thank you everyone. You are all so knowledgeable! It's hard to pick one. Ideally I like to try them all... Maybe once a month treat from a different chocolatier. So I can try 12 boxes a year...
