Do you think Facebook tells people when people have looked on their profile

Not directly but by the fact that person comes out as a person you may know.

No. I have strict privacy settings on mine and I still get random people.

champagnesupernovainthesky · 23/09/2020 22:34

It doesn't send a notification that you've viewed a profile but you will appear in their people you may know I believe

gamerchick · 23/09/2020 22:35

Just block them after looking. Sorted

Washinglinewench29 · 23/09/2020 23:22

It defo does, everytime I have a wee nose they appear in my people you may know for days on end so I'm sure it'l be the same on the other side.

I believe you do come up in their "people you may know". I was looking at an old school friend's page once, and later that day got a friend request from them. We hadn't been in contact since I left school. I don't think it was a coincidence. I don't snoop on others' pages now!

user127819 · 24/09/2020 00:11

I meant to add, we also had no mutual friends at that time, nor was my old school listed in my profile, so nothing else to link us.

HelpMeh · 24/09/2020 00:19

I've done plenty of snooping and they don't ever show up in my people you may know. Whether or not I show up in theirs, I cannot say.

Me neither.

I only ever get 'people you may know' when we have mutual friends.

VimFuego101 · 24/09/2020 00:34

Didn't some people on here do an experiment on this a while ago? (Unrelated posters viewed each other's profiles and reported back on whether the viewer showed up on their 'people you may know' list). I think the result of that and from my personal experience was that it does occur - I've had some people show up on mine who I have no connection with and they were obviously snooping 😂

CatRamsey · 24/09/2020 00:50

I quite often look at the page of a guy I'm into. We have no mutual friends. He never shows in my suggested however one day I decided to look at some of his friends pages. After that he started showing up in my suggested for maybe about a week. Obviously I have no idea whether I show up in his, kinda a bit nervous at the thought of it but at the same time he is a (fairly new) friend so if he ever sayse something I'd just admit I'd looked for him on there but not tell him how often

Vivana · 24/09/2020 00:54

My store manager came up on mine and he sent a friend request and I had not even looked at he's profile. I have nothing to hide either lol

emilyfrost · 24/09/2020 04:56

Not this again 🤦‍♀️

No, you won’t appear in someone’s “people you may know” just because you looked at their profile.

Nikori · 24/09/2020 05:03

A guy I was at school with sent me a friend request. He then started sending me loads of pervy messages, so I blocked him. About a month later his sister randomly popped up in my people you might know list. I wondered if he had used his sisters account to look me up.

APJ1 · 24/09/2020 07:07

If you want to snoop away and never come up in the person's People You My Know list, I think (hope!) you can do this if it's someone with whom you don't have any mutual friends. Set 'Who can send you friend requests' to 'Friends of friends' rather than 'Everybody'. I've never seen a name in my PYMK list that didn't have the add friend button next to it.

Mutual friends are only a tiny part of the algorithm Facebook uses to add people into your “people you may know” list.

Nobody appears on other people’s lists because they’ve been snooping, but because Facebook uses complex algorithms to match people.
