Orthodontics for young children

Does anyone have any knowledge on orthodontics for young kids. My 7 year old has a cross bite so her bottom front tooth sits entirely in front of her upper tooth. It sits very far forward and is also a
bit wobbly. Her dentist has only just referred us to an orthodontist (she wasn’t seen back in March due to Lockdown so 6 months wasted here) however he has also terrified me and has basically said the tooth could snap off as it’s so vulnerable.

I phoned the orthodontist this morning and we are looking at June 2021 for an NHS appointment or of course we can pay to go privately.

Am I missing something or is this just how it works? It seems really odd to me that for something that is seemingly time critical, not cosmetic and on such a little child we dont have any other options. Are there orthodontic departments in hospitals that would deal with stuff like this?

Here they don't see kids until they are 16. My Dd was on the list for four years. There is no funding.

Dds front teeth cross over as she needs a baby tooth removed.
Shes in some pain but not enough to be bumped up the list.
Shes on a four year waiting list and expects to be seen when shes 17.
Mad isn't it?
