Period pants and leakage - sorry, TMI

My dd has just got her first period. I want to make the whole thing easy for her so got various san pro options for her, including period pants, which she really likes. I thought the period pants would be particularly good for night time. I personally use a tampon overnight for the first couple of nights as I hate that feeling of blood seeping out and potentially leaking. But I don’t really want dd to use tampons overnight, particularly that she sleeps for a lot longer, so it doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Anyway, the bit I am getting to is that DD used the period pants last night and found them really comfortable but even though her period is pretty light, she got a bit of blood leaking out the back - sorry, TMI but you know how it kind of runs between your bum cheeks when you are lying down... Are there any solutions to this!?!?

What about reusable pads? My 10yo uses these, they are insanely absorbant and she finds them comfortable (they are very soft!). She wears period pants towards the end of her cycle when it's that bit lighter.

I use two pads end to end but I leak now and again. Wearing tampons overnight is not recommended btw!

Hmm, maybe she needs an extra long pad to cover the back area...

Which pants does she have? I have some from Modibodi and the absorbent bit at the back goes right up to the waistband! I did pick the "heavy" option but worth investigating.

Modibodi pants are brilliant. Not the cheapest but I've had no leaking at all

Beamur · 23/09/2020 13:25

Try a different pant brand? DD uses Modibodi and this hasn't happened to her. She probably needs some that come up higher on the waistband and perhaps more absorbent. Or use the pants and a nighttime towel in the area she had leakage.

Tampons are fine for overnight as long as you don't exceed 8 hours. Put in last thing and remove first thing

Modibodi in this house too for 12 yr old nighttime and no issues even when her second period was really heavy.

Thanks for all the comments - really helpful.

I think I have discovered where we have gone wrong... I got her some boyshort style ones from the Modibodi RED range for teens - but the absorbent bit in those does not go up high - so useless for nighttime...

I will order the normal Modibodi ones that are for nighttime.
