I'm on day 8 of using champix to quit smoking. Share your experiences please - side effects/ results etc.

What are your experiences? And what publication are you writing for?

Livelifejoyful · 23/09/2020 10:28

None lol. I'm a new user and read about the awful side effects. For me I've had vivid dreams, and felt slightly mentally clouded taking it. Upping my dose today and feeling abit anxious about if my side effects get worse. We shall see. Would just like to hear from others that's all. I'm using it to quit vaping nicotine. I quit smoking cigarettes 1.5 years ago but just exchanged one addiction for another.

I used it 9 years ago, I had vivid dreams and a really bad upset stomach but I successfully quit, I haven’t smoked since, not even a cheat cigarette.

@Yubaba thanks that's encouraging. I just upped the dose to the 2 1mg tablets and has some slight nausea this morning but it went away pretty quickly. Yes the vivid dreams are enjoyable, haven't had any bad ones.

DP did about 3 years ago. I think I remember him complaining about stomach ache/indigestion and feeling 'a bit down' from time to time but he managed to get through it and hasn't smoked since.

This is great as he'd been a heavy smoker for 25 years and tried to quit and failed many times. Plus it didn't seem to make him as grumpy/hard to live with as previous attempts.

My mum used it and it worked. She smoked 40 a day (!) and had smoked since she was 12. It was the only thing that worked. It was amazing for her. She quit at aged about 50 and never smoked again (she died of bowel cancer in her 70s).

I used about 9 years ago. Same as other posters a little bit of nausea in the am and very vivid dreams. However, I had a 40 a day habit and i haven't smoked since (I do vape a little though)

I used it in 2011. Had the vivid dreams. Felt nauseous quite a lot of the time.
I’d given up many times before but I never lost the craving for a cigarette and I always went back to smoking. I found it very easy to quit using Champix and I have had no cravings at all.

Phyllidakettle · 23/09/2020 13:11

I did ten years ago, never touched a cigarette since. The only side effects I had was a slight feeling of nausea for a while, and crazy dreams. Every dream was like I’d just watched a brilliant film! Honestly it was the best thing I ever did taking champix.

I succeeded in finally kicking the habit as well using Champix. Amazingly vivid dreams and constantly thirsty but definitely helped me get through the constant cravings. Now stopped for ten years.

The Alan Carr books help too in changing your mindset from viewing smoking as a treat which you deserve, to seeing it as an abusive relationship which will disappear if you finally make it clear you do not want it any more in your life, by repeatedly saying no to it.

11 years ago I quit using Champix. Not looked at a fag since.
Very nauseous in the morning, had to take on a full stomach.

I had to stop taking it after 6 weeks as my mood went through the floor. Like PMT x 1000. Sobbed for about 12 hours straight.
So stopped taking it, but it had already done the trick I guess.

Thanks for sharing, makes me feel hopeful. What day did it really kick in for you as I'm on day 8 and still craving.

I smoked for 40 years & had never really tried to stop, but as I was getting older & becoming more health conscious I thought I really need to try & give up the cigarettes. I started with the champix, set my date & off I went, almost 6 years later I am a non smoker & even detest the smell of it. I had no side effects what so ever, I love not being a slave to smoking anymore - https://euhealth24.com/drug/champix

It's brilliant, but I don't think it's currently available in England?
