Autumn 🍁🍂

The cooler weather has finally arrived! I'm in the south and it's been very warm, verging on hot, for weeks now with hardly any rain. I try not to complain (much!) but I find the heat hard going. Last night I awoke to rain on the window and it feels gloriously fresh this morning.

I love this time of year. Still light in the evenings but not hot and sweaty and the cool nights are wonderful for sleeping.

Time to dust off my boots and jumpers and plan some casseroles Smile

Anyone else love Autumn?

Yes me, it's exciting! Love the smells, the mists, woodsmoke, everything.

spiderlight · 23/09/2020 08:45

Me!! Absolutely adore it. Lovely walks with my dog snuffling through the leaves, big chunky soups and soft cuddly jumpers. Bring it on!

VenusClapTrap · 23/09/2020 09:00

I’m relieved to finally get some rain, but in general I find autumn quite depressing. I don’t like it getting dark earlier, or the prospect of months of winter. Especially this year with no holidays to look forward to, gatherings banned, family unable to come for Christmas and all the fun children’s stuff like Halloween and bonfire night cancelled.

I’m going to cheer myself up by planting a shedload of daffodil bulbs and looking forward to spring.

userxx · 23/09/2020 09:01

Well it's pissing it down here today, dark and dreary. Roll on next summer ☀️

ImaSababa · 23/09/2020 09:02

I love it! The sense of anticipation for cosy winter walks and fireside drinks. The smell of woodsmoke in the air. The cooler weather. Scarves and gloves! Seeing the leaves turn orange and gold in the park.

cheezy · 23/09/2020 09:03

I absolutely love it. It’s my favourite season of all.

Vintagevixen · 23/09/2020 09:05

Me! The coolness is fabulous, I'm also in the south on the coast and the heat has been unbearable the last week, resulting in me hiding in the house most days.

I can finally get out and about and go for some long walks with mu wellies on, can't wait.

Therewere5inthebed · 23/09/2020 09:08

It’s my absolute favourite season, stunning colours, the smell of woodsmoke in the air, snuggling up with my family (furry and non furry) and cooking lots of comforting food with the wonderful seasonal produce around.
Loungewear and movies.

Cavagirl · 23/09/2020 09:11

I always like the idea of autumn, with cosy fires, stews, mist, walks amongst the fallen leaves and huddling under a blanket with a hot chocolate when it's dark at 5pm.
The reality is usually it's pissing with rain, the train to work is unbearably hot because the heating automatically goes on in October regardless of temperature and i don't have time to make any of the lovely chutneys/pies/casseroles I'd planned so I just end up annoyed it's not summer.
Really hoping this year it feels more like we've been given the gift of time and I actually take pause to appreciate it all.

TinaTraybake · 23/09/2020 09:15

Absolutely love it! My favourite season. It always feels so cosy and I love the colours or the leaves

I love this. Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons I think. We're planning lots of weekend walks in the forest, before it gets too cold, just to soak it all in and appreciate what we can still do instead of focusing on what we can't do. Being out in nature lifts the spirit.

Yes I love Autumn. I look forward to nice meals, watching films and enjoying the rain from inside my house!

IndiaMay · 23/09/2020 10:09

Love autumn. I'm in the south and yesterday it was weird that the first official day of autumn timed perfectly with the first really chilly day since spring. Wfh at the moment so lit all my autumn candles in the afternoon and cooked crispy potatoes in the oven for dinner and the smell reminded me of roasts. I love knits, boots, pub drinks but the fire, walks in the forest, hot chocolate, pumpkin spice lattes, bake off. So nice

PowPurry · 23/09/2020 10:13

Totally with you OP. I I am so done with this year now. I just hope we’re still able to go out and enjoy what autumn has to offer.

InterstellarDrifter · 23/09/2020 10:16

I love September and October but then start to hate it when the clocks change and it’s dark at 4.
I Try to make the most of all the seasons but Autumn and Spring are the most comfortable as I don’t like being too hot or too cold.
There’s something lovely about going out in the colder months and coming home to warm cosy house and comforting food.
I always feel grateful for that.

badger2005 · 23/09/2020 10:21

Just placemarking, really. I love this sort of thread! (I would also like the summer, spring and winter equivalents... just find that appreciating the seasons makes me strangely happy).

ReallySpicyCurry · 23/09/2020 10:27

I love it. Spring is my favourite month, followed by Autumn, Summer, then Winter. There is something to love in all the seasons, though I do struggle with the endless dark of winter.

Sallycinnamum · 23/09/2020 10:31

My favourite season by a mile. It was a welcome relief for the rain to arrive this morning as it's been baking here in the london suburbs over the last few weeks.

anotherpersontoday · 23/09/2020 10:39

I love autumn between now and Christmas is my favorite time of year as it has my birthday, Halloween, bonfire night and then the run up to christmas. I love the cooler weather and the darker evenings. Perfect for lovely walks, then cosying up inside. Love the autumn menu of soups, stews and crumbles. It willbe different this years but I'm going to make it nuce for me and dh.

Justbenice1 · 23/09/2020 10:40

Ooooo great thread! I love autumn too. We have a real fire, something I'd always wanted when I was a child and now I finally have one. Looking forward to the candlelit evenings sat in front of it with marshmallows.

Lovely walks crunching the leaves underfoot, seeing all the beautiful colours in the parks and countryside, frosty and misty mornings where you simply have to wear a scarf, fluffy jumpers, skirts tights and boots, carb filled meals and casseroles/warming chili's, playing games listening to the rain, jacket potato with cheese and beans....these are a few of my favorite things Grin

I've bought a new wooly hat to wear, can't wait to legitimately get it out to wear lol

This bonfire night, we'll spend a few quid on getting some nice big fireworks to have in the garden with sparklers and (veggie) hot dogs.

It's all very lovely this time of year, feels cosy and festive Brew

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/09/2020 10:46

I always reckon that only people who can easily afford to heat their homes truly like autumn and winter.

This year I've just moved to a tiny cottage (from a single glazed five bed house with draughts everywhere) and am actually starting to cautiously look forward to crisper days. I have actual heating now! Whether or not I can afford to switch it on for long enough to make a difference remains to be seen....

TweetUsOnFacebook · 23/09/2020 10:50

I'm also happy about NOT having to do Halloween/trick or treat this year. A great opportunity great to do something different. Its a Saturday so we'll be at home cuddling up watching spooky movies and have a Halloween kitchen disco and have some sort of Halloween treat hunt like an Easter Egg hunt 🎃

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/09/2020 10:52

After finding the summer heatwave a bit much, I am looking forward to autumn more this year. This will be my second autumn in a pretty rural location and I found last year more enjoyable than a suburban autumn.

2beautifulbabs · 23/09/2020 10:58

I love autumn and all the excitement that comes with it like Halloween bonfire night and then Christmas.
I also like the crisp mornings woodland walks and cosy.
Sadly though this year won't be as lovely with so much banned now I can't see it being the same.
Just hope 2021 is a far better year.

badger2005 · 23/09/2020 11:07

I hope to still celebrate bonfire night and halloween - just in new ways. Any good ideas?
We might have a fire-pit in the garden for bonfire night, and I think we'll be camping (eek!) for the halloween weekend provided that the campsite is still open (just our household). I have teenagers (well, 12 and 15) so if you have any ideas for halloween/bonfire night that will work for them, please tell me! I know what they'd really like is to have lots of friends coming to join in, and we can do a bit of that within the rule of 6 guidance, but it's a bit limited.
