You can chose any PM from recent memory, say about the 1979s.

After a convo with DH this morning we agreed that Blair might have managed this crisis the best, not that it's probably a great bunch to choose from...

1970s even!

Tony Blair 100%
Would love Jonathan Powell to be in charge of civil service rather than Dominic Cummings.

Then Gordon Brown, then Theresa May.

Dee1975 · 22/09/2020 19:33

Good question! I was thinking the very same today. I would prob go for Margaret thatcher. Strong. Decisive. She would have a clear vision and plan for every scenario. I’m not saying she would be right (I was young when she was PM), but at least she would be strong. ‘This women is not for turning’ ...!

Xuli · 22/09/2020 19:33

Theresa May would have been high up my list

Blair. Far from perfect in other areas, but he was able to balance the needs of the economy and individuals, and that thinking is far beyond the current PM (and his cabinet).

baumwolle · 22/09/2020 19:34

Blair

Xuli · 22/09/2020 19:34

Blair was at least a statesman

Maggie

Thinkpinkstink · 22/09/2020 19:35

Blair. In hindsight, aside from the illegal war, he wasn't that bad.

Dawnlassie · 22/09/2020 19:35

Thatcher. No U turns.

ChaChaCha2012 · 22/09/2020 19:36

@Dee1975 Are you aware of how she treated the working classes? We'd have seen as many deaths under Thatcher, but she wouldn't have cared as they were people she saw as wholly disposable.

toomanyspiderplants · 22/09/2020 19:36

Thatcher. strong woman.

ladymuck111 · 22/09/2020 19:37

Was talking about this yesterday I think Theresa May would have been far more sensible and no nonsense.

Xuli · 22/09/2020 19:37

@Thinkpinkstink

Blair. In hindsight, aside from the illegal war, he wasn't that bad.
I was saying how when I was young at the time o hated New Labour, but now in my 40s I completely get why people were so excited about them. I would vote for NL. Yes, with hindsight they really weren't that bad

Blair for me too. His first government actually improved my family's life a lot. He was eloquent and a proper statesman, unlike the current incumbent.

This.

Thatcher, like Germany's Angela Merkel, was a female scientist. I think she'd have dealt with this better than any of the others since '79.

John Major might've done ok too.

AlexaShutUp · 22/09/2020 19:38

Blair or Brown

May or Cameron over Boris

Goldie01 · 22/09/2020 19:39

Jacinda Ardern

Dee1975 · 22/09/2020 19:41

@ChaChaCha2012 As I said in my comment - I was young when she was pm. So can’t comment if she would have taken us on the right path or not. But I do know she was strong. Hence my answer!

PolloDePrimavera · 22/09/2020 19:42

Maggie, Tony or Theresa. I'm not sure why I'm including him really, he'd be my third choice. I think women are better at taking control and organising. There's been too much prevarication and lack of clarity with Boris.

RedRumTheHorse · 22/09/2020 19:43

Anyone but Boris.

Xuli · 22/09/2020 19:43

I admire Thatcher as a strong leader who knew what she wanted and stuck to it, but I think in the long term her kind of government would have caused untold pain for the 'working' class

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 22/09/2020 19:44

Definitely Blair. People hated him for the wars but at least everyone were more inclined to listen to him and he had some pretty heavyweight names in his cabinets.

Gingerkittykat · 22/09/2020 19:45

Gordon Brown.

Maggie might have been strong but I'm betting she would have thrown the vulnerable to the wolves.

dancemom · 22/09/2020 19:46

Gordon Brown 100%
