I think so but I think it only applies to adults and not children.

Laiste · 22/09/2020 15:12

Ahhh. So dance will be ok.

Nit so sure about swimming as there are usually 8 or 9 adult instructors round the pools. 3 age groups in 3 different pools plus life guards ....

Thank you.

I have been trying to see what happens to gym classes but there doesn’t seem to be any up to date guidance yet

Laiste · 22/09/2020 17:47

We've only had 2 classes of each - would be bloody rotten if DD gets them cancelled again.

She'd just learned to swim before lockdown after a gazillion swimming lessons. Now she's back to putting her feet down half way!

Oh well fingers crossed.

I imagine we're back in the pattern of an announcement raising more questions than it answers one day, guidance being published a day or so later that makes a few things clearer.

RedCatBlueCat · 22/09/2020 18:03

I'm sure more info will come out, but I thought it was indoor, team sports? So, no football inside, but dance, tennis, gymnastics, swimming ok??

nosswith · 22/09/2020 18:09

I thought indoor team sports as well.

optimisticpessimist01 · 22/09/2020 18:11

Was there a date for the announcement? Is it Thursday like the pubs curfew? DH has an indoor 5 a side tonight and wanted to get in one last game before he can't!

Witchend · 22/09/2020 18:33

Dance classes perhaps go more under education? So they'll be fine.

mizu · 22/09/2020 18:34

Just dropped my 2DDs at netball. Guess it might be the last session for a while......

Laiste · 22/09/2020 18:44

Team sports. Right. Not 'classes'.

Just have to wait for an email i guess. Or not.

It all just seems so random. Almost designed to cause confusion!

It frustrates me that the focus is always on sports - like there aren't other things in life. I'm currently waiting to hear whether this will take out the two choirs that I sing with that have just started rehearsing again Sad

Thiswillbeinteresting · 22/09/2020 19:55

We are waiting guidance from our governing body (British Gymnastics) but there seems to be a lot of worried people thinking that this is going to impact older gymnasts in disciplines such as trampolining, as well as adults who participate. BG have said they are awaiting guidance from Sport England, so who knows. I wish they would sort all this before making the announcements Sad

From STA

Following on from the Prime Minister’s announcement today, we have received a positive update this evening that swimming lessons will not be classified as ‘indoor team sports’ at this present time. Therefore, learners can continue to take part in organised swimming lessons (including baby and pre-school and adult swimming) and aquatic fitness classes at indoor venues that adhere to COVID secure guidelines.
To clarify – swimming lessons and aquatic fitness sessions:
• Continue to fall into the ‘organised sport’ category, so are exempt from the ‘rule of 6’
• Are not classified as ‘team’ sports
Additionally, the Prime Minister did also confirm today that leisure organisations will now have a legal obligation to follow government guidance.

My two have only been back swimming for 2 weeks and I guess today might be their last lesson for a while. Kickboxing might be stopped too. My youngest daughter won't be happy.

Comefromaway · 22/09/2020 20:17

It’s been confirmed by a Oliver Dowden that adult performing arts in groups of more than 6 is no longer allowed.

But kids classes/rehearsals/activities are not affected.

NavyBerry · 22/09/2020 20:49

And does it apply to playgrounds? There are always more than 6 people there
