To ask you to help me style a room with a crushed velvet bed?

It's not actually the bed I want, but it's the only one in price range so that's what we are getting!
Its light grey crushed velvet, which isnt really my style. Without going darker grey, what can I put on the walls to mute it a bit? My furniture is dark antique wood. Dark wood floors. Plain linen coloured walls. The room is very drab.

Any ideas???

You're painting the walls? Something like Dove Tale from F&B? It's a "can't put my finger on it" mauve / grey which looks almost lilac in some lights but more mushroomy in others.

Was going to suggest a purpley shade. Either a grey violet or a lavender. If you're not sure about crushed velvet don't do it though... It's quite a strong statement!

I wasnt sure either OP. I wanted the wingback style but would have preferred a fabric that wasn't velvet.
In the end I loved it. Back wall is F&B Stiffkey blue.

Oh and it was mustard before mustard was a thing 😂
I once stayed in a very nice malmaison that was an industrial style with a velvet bed. You can now buy concrete effect wallpaper and I admit I'm very tempted to try it....

Thanks, these are the types of ideas I'm looking for.

I agree it is a strong statement and really not my style. But the price and mattress quality are the very best for our budget and the old bed is falling apart. It's sort of a one off offer from someone we know.

I did see some with a brick wall that looked quite nice too

The Malmaison style is bold and works well with softer fabrics I think. I was quite set on the concrete but I've seen a map one now..... I do have some thick fur throws I use in winter which makes it look cosier as well. Couple more Malmaison rooms here if it helps.
